Tata’s most-awaited launch last year was the Sierra. Tata decided to bring the iconic SUV back to life in an all-new avatar. The new Sierra was launched last year, and official deliveries began in 2026. The SUV is now on the roads, and we have already seen several videos and reviews of it online. Apart from the Sierra that is currently on sale, here are three new versions of the Sierra SUV that are expected to be launched in the market soon.
The first one on this list is the electric version of the Sierra. We are sure almost everyone would have guessed it. The Sierra EV has been spotted testing on our roads several times, and the SUV is now almost ready to enter production. It is scheduled to be launched by the end of June.

The Sierra EV is based on Tata Motors’ Acti.ev+ platform. The exterior design of the SUV is expected to be similar to the ICE version, with EV-specific changes such as a closed grille, revised bumper, EV-specific wheels, and updated interior elements. It is expected to continue offering all the features seen on the ICE version and perhaps even more.
The SUV is expected to be offered with the same 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs as the Harrier EV, and it is likely to offer a similar range as well. The SUV will be available with both dual-motor and single-motor configurations. This means the Sierra EV will be offered in AWD and RWD versions from day one.

With the Sierra, Tata launched its brand-new petrol engine developed in-house. The lower variants of the Sierra get the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the higher trims get the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit. The good thing about this particular engine is that it is hybrid-ready.
This is an Atkinson-cycle engine, which means Tata can pair it with a small battery pack and an electric motor to create a strong-hybrid powertrain when needed. With emission norms becoming stricter, Tata might eventually phase out diesel engines, replacing them with a strong-hybrid petrol setup that is known for delivering excellent fuel efficiency without compromising performance.
When Tata launched the Sierra last year, almost everyone expected an AWD version to be offered. Tata had announced that the ARGOS platform, on which the Sierra is based, is capable of supporting AWD. However, that never happened, and Tata only launched the 2WD versions in the market.

Although the AWD version is not available at the moment, Tata is expected to launch an AWD version of the Sierra in future. It is likely to happen only by 2027 and Tata had confirmed this at the time of Sierra launch. The exact details have not been revealed yet. It is not clear whether the petrol or diesel version will get the AWD system.
The main reason for this delay is that Tata knows only a small portion of SUV buyers would actually opt for AWD or 4x4 versions.
