Toyota, as a brand, is popular in India and around the world for its reliable and robust engines. We have come across several examples that prove the same. Like most brands, Toyota is also slowly moving away from diesel engines and is focusing on petrol, hybrid, and EV powertrains. Here, we have a list of three new Toyota cars that are expected to launch in our market soon, and all the cars on this list will be offered with a petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid system.
Toyota announced this year that it will be discontinuing the Innova Crysta from the market next year. One of the reasons the Crysta continued to sell in good numbers was because it was available with a diesel engine and was more affordable compared to the Hycross.

Toyota has decided to address this issue and fill the gap that will be left once the Crysta is discontinued. The company is planning to introduce a lower-spec hybrid version of the Hycross, especially for the fleet market, as the regular petrol version is not as fuel-efficient as the diesel-powered Crysta.
This lower variant is unlikely to offer many of the features found in higher trims and may even skip ADAS to keep costs in check. It will continue to use the same 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol engine that generates around 184 PS (combined) and will be paired with an eCVT gearbox.
We recently came across a spy image online showing a heavily camouflaged SUV being tested in the mountains. The vehicle resembled the Hyryder, but something about it looked different - it appeared slightly longer than the standard model.

It is possible that Toyota is working on a longer, 7-seater version of the Hyryder for the Indian market. This would help bridge the gap between the Hyryder and the upcoming lower-spec Hycross 7-seater MPV.
It is expected to be offered with the same set of engines as the regular Hyryder, including a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options, and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine paired with an eCVT. There are also reports suggesting that the test mule could be Toyota’s version of the Maruti Victoris, which was recently launched in the market.
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki jointly developed the Hyryder and Grand Vitara as part of their collaboration. These were among the first products built from scratch under this partnership. Since their launch, neither the Hyryder nor the Grand Vitara has received any major updates.

With increasing competition in the mid-size SUV segment, Toyota and Maruti are likely to introduce a facelift for the SUV soon. The updated model may come with a revised front grille, bumper, and a new set of alloy wheels. Toyota might also introduce Level 2 ADAS, which has now become a common feature in this segment.
The SUV will continue to be powered by the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol and 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engines. Like the current version, the mild-hybrid automatic variant is also expected to offer an AWD option.
