Tata Motors in January of this year launched the petrol engine-powered Harrier and Safari in India. So far, we have seen the top-of-the-line variants of these SUVs in videos. However, recently, a detailed video walkaround of the new Tata Safari base Smart variant with the petrol engine has been shared online. The presenter also gives his driving experience as well.
The video showing the Tata Safari base Smart variant with the petrol engine has been shared on YouTube by Born Confuz on their channel. It starts off with the presenter mentioning that the SUV seen in the video is the new Safari petrol’s Smart variant. It starts at Rs 13.29 lakh, and it is currently the most affordable variant in the lineup.

He added that this variant is perfect for those family buyers who need a big 7-seater SUV without spending a fortune. Following the introduction, the presenter then starts showing the exterior design of this SUV. He starts at the front of this SUV and mentions that it comes equipped with the same gloss black grille as the higher-spec variants.
Apart from the grille, it also gets dual-function LED DRLs that also act as turn indicators. However, it does not get the connecting LED strip in the middle. The base Smart variant also gets the projector LED headlights but misses out on the LED fog lights. Being the base trim, it also does not get any front parking sensors, camera, or sensors for ADAS Level 2, as offered on the higher-spec variants.

Moving ahead in the video, the vlogger then shows the side profile. He highlights that on the sides, the main highlight is the 17-inch alloy wheels. It also gets body-colored door handles, ORVMs with LED turn indicators, and disc brakes on all four wheels. On the roof, this variant also comes equipped with functional roof rails as well.
Next up, the presenter moves to the rear of this SUV and mentions that it gets LED taillights. However, they are not connected, as seen on the higher variants. It also does not get a reverse camera, rear wiper, washer, and defogger setup. However, it does come offered with two parking sensors. The SUV also misses out on the shark fin antenna.

Following the exterior, the presenter shows the cabin of the Safari petrol Smart trim. He highlights that it gets fabric upholstery on the seats and on the door pads. Meanwhile, the higher variants get leatherette upholstery. It also misses out on any infotainment system, speakers, auto-dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and many others.
However, it does get a small digital instrument gauge cluster, automatic climate control, and all four power windows. The higher-spec variants also come offered with an electronic parking brake and auto hold, but this variant gets the fighter jet-style manual handbrake and manually adjustable ORVMs.

Following the walkaround, the vlogger then starts driving the Tata Safari base Smart variant with the petrol engine. He mentions that this SUV comes powered by the 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion turbo petrol engine. This is the same engine which is also seen in the Tata Sierra and the Harrier. It is capable of making 158 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. The base variant only gets a 6-speed manual gearbox option.
The presenter also drives the Safari petrol and shares his thoughts on the driving experience. He highlights that he believed that the SUV would feel slightly underpowered. However, in reality, it offers enough power, and it is very smooth. The presenter states that this engine is one of the smoothest engines from Tata Motors.
