Tata Motors is doubling down on electric vehicles. The carmaker is already leading the EV game in India and plans to launch at least three EVs this year. This offensive includes new models and facelifts to existing ones. Tata Motors is facing increasing competition from new-age EV players, and this new wave of products is expected to strengthen its leadership in the space.

Tata Motors will launch the Sierra EV in India on May 19, 2026. It is one of the most anticipated EV launches this year. The electric Sierra will stand close to the internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart with its overall design and cues like the signature panoramic rear glass area and clamshell-shaped tailgate. It will, however, have EV-specific design cues like a closed-off grille, different front fascia, aero-optimised alloy wheels. The EV could also come with exclusive colour options.
Inside, the EV will likely get new colours and EV-specific trims and touches. Tata Motors hasn’t revealed the interior design and feature list of the e-SUV yet. It is likely to share its features with the ICE version. In that case, it will have three screens (functioning as the central infotainment system, front passenger display, and digital driver’s display), powered front seats with ventilation function, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, powered tailgate, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, 12-speaker JBL audio with Dolby Atmos and level 2 ADAS.

The Sierra EV will be underpinned by the ARGOS platform. This is the same platform that underpins the ICE version. The ARGOS is a multi-energy platform and the Sierra.EV will come with two battery packs- likely 55kWh and 65kWh. It will have All Wheel Drive (AWD) from day one. The AWD version is expected to get a 75 kWh battery. The Sierra.EV will become one of the few mass-market electric SUVs to offer AWD. It will compete with models like Mahindra BE6, and Hyundai Creta Electric. These do not offer AWD.

Tata Motors will also launch the facelifted Tiago.EV facelift sometime this year. Expected to be out by mid-2026, it will come with a revised front fascia, a revised colour theme, new bumpers, and redesigned wheels.
Inside, the electric hatchback will likely come with a large floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, digital MID, rear AC vents, two-spoke steering wheels with illuminated Tata logo like what we see on newer Tata models. Features like a 360 camera and sunroof will likely be added. Speculations also point to the possibility of wireless smartphone charger and connected car features getting added to the car.

The outgoing Tiago.EV comes with 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery packs. Rumours suggest that Tata Motors could introduce larger battery packs on the Tiago.EV facelift- likely the ones sourced from the facelifted Punch.EV facelift. It remains to be seen if the carmaker would actually take this direction, especially considering the Tiago.EV’s underlying platform is less flexible.
The current Tiago.EV, in its lower spec, makes 60hp and 110Nm while the higher one has 73.5hp and 114Nm on offer. If battery size increases on the new model, we may see a jump in the power and torque figures as well. The facelift will continue to compete with the MG Comet and Citroen eC3.

By the end of this year, Tata Motors will enter the luxury EV space with the Avinya range. It will be a family of electric vehicles, and not a single model. Unlike other Tata EVs, the Avinya range will not have ICE counterparts. It will be sold through dedicated retail outlets. The Avinya range will come with a luxurious and technology-packed cabin. It will have a flat floor and generous cabin room.

The Avinya range will be underpinned by a localised derivative of Jaguar Land Rover’s 800V EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) platform. The production-spec will likely come with 80 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs. Range figures will likely fall in the range of 500-720 km per charge. This architecture will support ultra-fast charging- 10-80% charging will only take 20 minutes.
