Maruti Suzuki’s all-electric SUV, the Suzuki eVitara, has now been crash tested by the ANCAP. And the result is a 4-star safety rating.

That makes it safe, no doubt. But in today’s world of increasingly stringent crash norms, it also means the eVitara falls just short of the top-tier 5-star club.
According to ANCAP’s official results, the eVitara delivered a mixed but respectable performance across categories:
Adult Occupant Protection: 77%
Child Occupant Protection: 87%
Vulnerable Road User Protection: 79%
Safety Assist: 71%

In crash tests, the SUV offered good protection in most key impact scenarios, especially in side impacts and for child occupants.
The structure held up well. Protection levels for the head, neck and most body regions were rated good in several tests. Child safety, in particular, is a strong point with an 87% score.
ADAS performance was also decent, especially autonomous emergency braking (AEB) in car-to-car scenarios. In short, the fundamentals are solid, like they should be for a car that's sold globally, across both developing and developed markets.
These things are specific to the Australian and New Zealand markets, which have more stringent safety standards. 1. Safety assist score (71%) wasn’t class-leading. 2. Missing or limited driver monitoring features cost points. and 3. Some pedestrian protection areas weren’t as strong.
These are exactly the areas where modern crash tests are becoming stricter. And they’re often what separate a 4-star car from a 5-star one, especially in more stringent crash test protocols such as A-NCAP and B-NCAP.

The Australia-spec eVitara tested by ANCAP comes with more safety tech than what is expected on lower variants of the India-spec model.
The Australia-spec model that is built in the same factory as the Indian version of the eVitara gets
More advanced ADAS calibration
Additional safety assists
Higher standard safety equipment
Which means the Indian version may not directly mirror the ANCAP-tested car, especially on lower trims.
The India-spec model has performed very well at the crash test relevalt to India - Bharat NCAP
While ANCAP gave it 4 stars, the same car has already been tested by Bharat NCAP, where it scores a full 5-star safety rating.

Adult Occupant Protection: 31.49 / 32
Child Occupant Protection: 43 / 49
Side impact: 16/16 (perfect score)
Frontal crash: 15.49/16
This makes the eVitara one of the safest Maruti Suzukis ever tested in India. So why are the two scores different in A-NCAP and B-NCAP? Simple: Different crash protocols and expectations.
ANCAP (and Euro NCAP) are more stringent on ADAS and pedestrian safety. Bharat NCAP focuses more on core crash protection. Also, automakers sometimes tune safety equipment differently for different markets.
The eVitara is Maruti Suzuki’s first serious global electric car. Safety-wise, it’s clearly a big step forward. The 4 star rating in ANCAP means that safety is good, but not class-leading. The 5 stars in Bharat NCAP means that the eVitara is among the safest cars sold in India.
To sum it up, the eVitara is a well-engineered, fundamentally safe SUV, but like many cars today, its final safety rating depends heavily on which version you’re buying and where it’s tested.
