
The sub-4 meter SUV segment in India has become safer than it has ever been. This is because of the introduction of stricter crash test norms under Bharat NCAP. In the last few months, we have seen a few new sub-compact SUVs launched in the country, and all of these have been tested by Bharat NCAP. So today, we are giving you the details of all the recently launched sub-compact SUVs which have scored high scores in BNCAP.

Starting off with the safest SUV on this list, the Tata Punch.ev. This electric micro-SUV has achieved one of the highest scores ever recorded by Bharat NCAP. It scored 31.46 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection.
As per BNCAP, in the crash tests, the Punch.ev demonstrated excellent structural integrity with a stable bodyshell in both frontal and side impacts. Protection for most critical body parts was rated good, which contributed to its near-perfect score.
Coming to child safety, it scored a strong 45 out of 49 points. This includes full marks in dynamic tests and CRS installation, showing that it offers excellent protection for young occupants as well.
In terms of safety features, the Punch.ev comes equipped with a ton of features. It gets 6 airbags as standard, along with ESP, ISOFIX mounts, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Higher variants also offer a 360-degree camera, blind spot view monitor, and SOS emergency calling feature.
The Punch.ev is offered with 30 kWh and 40 kWh battery packs, with a claimed range between 275 km and 350 km. Pricing starts at Rs 9.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.59 lakh, which makes it one of the safest and most affordable EVs in the market.

Next on the list is the recently launched Hyundai Venue, which, as per the ratings, is the highest scoring ICE sub-compact SUV in Bharat NCAP. It secured a five-star safety rating with an impressive 31.15 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 44.46 out of 49 in child occupant protection.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 15.15 out of 16, while in the side impact test, it scored a perfect 16 out of 16. The driver's head, neck, pelvis, and thighs received good protection, while the chest and tibia were rated adequate. For the co-driver, almost all body parts received good protection.
In side and pole impact tests, the Venue performed exceptionally well, with good ratings across all areas. This clearly shows the strong safety structure of this SUV. Coming to child safety, it scored 23.46 out of 24 in dynamic tests and a perfect 12 out of 12 in CRS installation. The vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13.
Hyundai offers the new-generation Venue with 6 airbags as standard, along with TPMS, hill start assist, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX mounts. Higher variants also come with Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake. The 2026 Hyundai Venue is priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15.51 lakh.

Like the Punch.ev, the newly launched Tata Punch facelift has also secured a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. It scored an impressive 30.58 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 in child occupant protection.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 14.71 out of 16, and in the side impact test, it scored 15.87 out of 16. The driver's head, neck, pelvis, and thighs received good protection, while the chest and legs were rated adequate. The co-driver protection was mostly good across all critical areas.
Additionally, in the side pole impact test, all body parts received good protection, which further strengthens its safety credentials. When it comes to child safety, the Punch scored a perfect 24 out of 24 in dynamic tests and 12 out of 12 in CRS installation. Also, the vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13, which has resulted in a total of 45 out of 49.
The safety features of the Punch facelift include 6 airbags as standard, ESC, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, and a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring. It also gets hill start and descent control. Pricing-wise, the new Punch facelift is priced between Rs 5.65 lakh and Rs 10.60 lakh. This makes it one of the most affordable five-star rated SUVs in India.

Last on this list is the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, which was launched in January. Like the XUV400, it has also secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. It scored 30.38 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 43 out of 49 in child occupant protection tests.
In the frontal offset test, it scored 14.38 out of 16, while in the side impact test, it scored a perfect 16 out of 16. The driver's head, neck, and thighs received good protection, while the chest and legs were rated adequate. In side impacts, all areas received good ratings as per Bharat NCAP.
Additionally, in child safety, it scored a perfect 24 out of 24 in dynamic tests and 12 out of 12 in CRS installation. However, the vehicle assessment score was slightly lower at 7 out of 13, bringing the total to 43 out of 49.
The XUV 3XO EV comes with 6 airbags as standard, along with ESP, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, and all-wheel disc brakes. Its higher variants offer Level 2 ADAS with features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera.
This EV SUV comes with a 39.4 kWh battery pack, offering a real-world range of around 285 km. As for the pricing, it starts at Rs 13.89 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.96 lakh.
