Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have been in a partnership for a very long time now. As we know, the partnership allows Maruti Suzuki to utilize Toyota’s popular strong-hybrid systems and electrification expertise, while Toyota gains access to Suzuki’s cost-efficient compact vehicle architecture. As part of the collaboration, we have seen the brands launch new models that were either co-developed or even rebadged. Like most manufacturers, Maruti and Toyota are also working on new models and updating their existing lineup. Here we have a list of six new MPVs that Maruti and Toyota are expected to launch in the market soon.
Toyota will discontinue its popular MPV, the Crysta, from the market next year. In order to fill the void, Toyota is now planning to launch a lower variant of the Innova Hycross Hybrid. This would be a lower-spec variant with fewer features than the current versions.
This will be positioned as an alternative to the Crysta, as the regular petrol version of the non-hybrid Hycross is not fuel-efficient. It is not something fleet owners would appreciate. The MPV will use the same 2.0-litre strong-hybrid engine with an e-CVT gearbox.
Once Toyota launches the lower-spec version of the Hycross in the market, Maruti might also get a similar version of the Invicto. Maruti already offers the Invicto with fewer features than the Hycross, and that is one of the reasons why it is able to sell the Invicto at a lower price.
The lower-spec Invicto will come with even fewer features and would continue to be powered by the same 2.0-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine.
The YMC EV will be the second electric vehicle from Maruti Suzuki. It is based on the same platform as the e Vitara. The YMC has been spotted testing on our roads multiple times. The upcoming model is expected to be a seven-seater MPV featuring a premium-looking front end with a closed grille, Suzuki logo, open lower air dam, thick wheel-arch cladding, LED tail lamps, and more.
The MPV will come with features like a panoramic glass roof, a large touchscreen infotainment system, an e Vitara-like driver display, automatic climate control, reclining seats, a wireless charger, Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and more.
It is expected to use the same 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options. While the e Vitara is a front-wheel-drive EV, there is a possibility that Maruti might opt for a rear-wheel-drive setup for this MPV.
After the eBella, Toyota will also launch its next EV based on Maruti Suzuki’s YMC concept. Toyota’s version of the YMC electric MPV is likely to arrive by early 2028.
It will be based on the HEARTECT-e architecture, which also underpins the eBella and e Vitara. The three-row electric MPV is expected to be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options.
It is expected to offer the same features as the Maruti YMC, but the exterior design will be different. It will rival models such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV, BYD eMax 7, and Mahindra XEV 9S.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a popular MPV in both the cab and private segments. Maruti is said to be working on a facelifted version of the Ertiga before it undergoes a full-generation change. The updated version is expected to arrive later this year or early next year.
As part of the update, Maruti will offer a revised front grille, new LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels, and connected LED tail lamps.
It will continue to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 103 PS and 137 Nm of torque. It would be offered with manual and automatic transmission options, along with CNG variants.
After Maruti, Toyota will also launch an updated version of the Rumion MPV, which is nothing but a rebadged version of the Ertiga. The MPV would receive revised headlamps and a grille, along with new alloy wheels, revised tail lamps, and more.
It would continue to use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options, along with a CNG-manual variant.
