Lately, we have been seeing a lot of news about Chinese electric vehicles and SUVs coming to the Indian market. Many of these vehicles are actually rebadged for the Indian market and launched by brands that are already present here. The reason why many brands are adopting this approach is because Chinese manufacturers are offering feature-loaded and tech-rich vehicles at affordable prices. One of the latest Chinese automakers to file a patent in India is Rox, and that too for its Adamas SUV.

The Rox Adamas is a boxy-looking SUV, and it is a large vehicle measuring over 5 metres in length. It is a luxury SUV with an exterior design that may remind you of the Defender 130. At the front, the SUV gets a T-shaped LED headlamp cluster with integrated DRLs. Although Rox has filed a patent in India, there is no official confirmation from the brand regarding its entry into the Indian market.

Coming to the dimensions, the Adamas is 5.3 metres long, 1.9 metres wide, and 1.8 metres tall, with a wheelbase of 3.0 metres. It weighs over 2,700 kg and is available in both 6- and 7-seater configurations. The SUV looks premium on the outside and comes with 21-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, roof rails, dual-tone paint, a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, and more.

On the inside, the Adamas offered internationally comes with features like a heated and four-way adjustable steering wheel, suede headliner, sun visors, triple-zone automatic climate control, 256-colour ambient lighting, keyless entry, smartphone-enabled key, a 12-way powered driver’s seat, a 10-way powered passenger seat, heated and ventilated seats with a massage function, eight-way powered second-row adjustment (captain seat version), and a 346-litre boot (with all rows up).

This massive SUV is actually a PHEV. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine along with two electric motors. In fact, this is a range-extender PHEV, where the petrol engine’s job is simply to act as a generator to produce electricity for the electric motors. The SUV generates 469 bhp and 740 Nm of torque and comes with full-time 4WD.

The electric motors draw power from a 56.01 kWh battery pack, which helps the vehicle accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds, despite weighing around 2,700 kg.
As per the details available online, the range-extender setup on this SUV is extremely efficient and is capable of offering a combined range of up to 1,226 km with both petrol and electric power.

The battery alone offers a claimed range of 265 km, and it would take around 8.8 hours to fully recharge from zero using a 7 kW AC charger. The SUV also supports V2V and V2L features. The Rox Adamas can handle a fair bit of off-roading, as it comes with height-adjustable air suspension and a water wading capacity of 770 mm.
