The French automotive giant Renault is finally making the much-needed comeback. This has been made possible due to the launch of the all-new 2026 Duster mid-size SUV, which was highly anticipated. From the recently released sales data of Renault in April 2026, it has been noted that the sales of the Duster have grown by almost 70 percent, which is very impressive. Additionally, the overall sales of Renault have also grown a lot.

In the last month of April, Renault India managed to sell a total of 5,413 vehicles in the domestic market. When compared to the 2,602 units sold in April last year, the company has registered an impressive growth of 108 percent on a Year-on-Year basis. Apart from this, on a Month-on-Month basis, Renault has grown by 7 percent, as the sales in March 2026 were 5,046 units.

Now what’s even more astonishing about Renault sales is that almost every second Renault vehicle sold in India last month was a Duster. The company managed to sell 2,359 units of the Duster in April 2026 alone. This means that the SUV contributed nearly 44 percent of Renault’s monthly sales volume.
In simple words, the Duster has revived Renault’s sales in India. On a Month-on-Month basis, the Duster sales have grown by 68 percent. In March 2026, Renault sold 1,402 units of the Duster. However, in April, this number jumped to 2,359 units.

Now there are a number of reasons behind this increase in the sales figures of the Duster. The first is that the proper deliveries of the base 1.0-litre turbo petrol variants have finally started in April. Renault opened the pre-bookings for the Duster from January 26 through its R Pass programme.
At the time, interested customers could book the vehicle with a booking amount of Rs 21,000. However, in March, the company was in a partial rollout phase, after which the month of April became the first full-scale delivery month for the SUV. And because of the huge booking backlog, the deliveries increased.
The production of the Duster also stabilised in April along with dealer inventories and, as a result, the dispatches have also increased. This sales growth pattern is very common for newly launched high-demand SUVs in India. The first month remains constrained due to lower supply, but then in the second month, we see a major jump in sales. We saw this happen with the Tata Sierra as well.

One of the biggest reasons behind the success of the new Duster is the hype of the last-generation model. Many Duster enthusiasts had been waiting for the launch of the new-generation model. Also, this time around, the Duster has been given a powerful engine lineup. The top-end Turbo TCe 160 engine produces 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque, which makes it one of the most powerful SUVs in its segment.
It comes paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT gearbox. Renault is also offering the entry-level Turbo TCe 100 engine, which produces 100 PS and 160 Nm of torque. This engine, even though it is small, has become popular for being very responsive. Another major reason behind the SUV’s popularity is its aggressive pricing combined with premium features.

The new Duster starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 18.49 lakh ex-showroom. Renault is also offering a ton of features in the Duster, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof, 212 mm ground clearance, and a massive 518-litre boot.
Renault has also improved the safety of this SUV as well. It comes with six airbags as standard across the range, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, TPMS, an electronic parking brake, and Level 2 ADAS. It also gets Level 2 ADAS like its popular rivals.
Currently, the Duster has already become Renault’s best-selling model in India. The SUV sold 2,359 units in April. Meanwhile, the Triber affordable 7-seater MPV managed to achieve sales of 1,917 units. Meanwhile, the Kiger and Kwid sold 727 and 410 units, respectively.

Renault India has no plans of slowing down its growth. The company is currently preparing to launch more SUVs under its FutuREady global strategy. The most highly anticipated SUV among the upcoming ones is the Duster Hybrid, which is expected to launch around Diwali 2026.
This SUV will come equipped with a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors. It will make 160 PS and 172 Nm of torque. There will also be an EV-only mode as well. Apart from this, Renault is also preparing to launch the Boreal, which will be the 7-seater version of the Duster.

This SUV will target buyers looking for larger family-oriented SUVs. It will rival the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. The Boreal will be priced in the range of Rs 19 to 25 lakh. Lastly, the company is also developing the Renault Bridger, which will become its biggest launch in India. It will most likely surpass the success of the Duster, as it will be a rugged-looking sub-compact SUV.

It will be offered with naturally aspirated petrol, turbo petrol, strong hybrid, CNG, and electric powertrain options. It will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. Currently, Renault is operating at around 5,000 monthly sales. However, over the next 18 months, the company could touch 15,000 monthly sales in India.
