Sub-compact (sub-four metre) SUVs and MPVs enjoy great acceptance in the Indian market due to their strong focus on value and sharp pricing. This segment will play an important role in Renault’s proposed comeback in our market. The carmaker is said to launch six new products in this segment- the next generations of Kwid, Kiger, Triber, and the Bridger family which will include petrol, hybrid and EV versions.

Renault is now working on the next generation of the Kwid, its entry-level hatchback. The current version comes with a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine, and is based on the CMF-A (Common Module Family-A) platform.
Renault now plans to move the new Kwid to its recently-revealed RGEP platform. The Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP) will become a more cost-effective base and will also allow support for factory-fitted CNG. It will thus have a more usable boot space than the current CNG version. The new Kwid is also likely to get notable design revisions and more features.

The Triber last received an update in April this year, which gave it more features over the facelift that had gone on sale in 2025. Even the current model is based on the same CMF-A+ platform as before. The carmaker will soon move it to the new RGEP platform. This transition will particularly benefit the CNG version as boot space and third-row comfort could both increase significantly. Details of other changes remain sparse at the time of writing.
The new model is expected to retain the outgoing Triber’s 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and CNG engines. Both manual and AMT automatic transmissions are now offered on the petrol version. On the upcoming Triber, the AMT option is likely to be offered with the CNG powertrain as well.

The Kiger is also expected to move to the RGEP platform in the future. This move will give it a factory-fitted CNG option- just like the two cars mentioned above. At present, this sub-four metre SUV is underpinned by the CMF-A platform. Two engines are currently on offer: 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbocharged petrol, offered with manual and automatic (AMT and CVT) transmissions.
The new model is likely to offer an automatic transmission option on the CNG version. Details of other changes remain sparse. The Kiger last received a facelift in India in August 2025. With the upcoming update, it will become even more appealing for many Indian buyers.

The Bridger will become Renault’s second product in the sub-compact SUV space, when launched. It will be based on the RGMP Small platform. RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) is, in fact, the same platform that underpins the third-generation Renault Duster.
Renault revealed the Bridger concept in March this year. Its boxy proportions, upright stance and clean surfaces instantly impressed many. People have since been waiting for more updates around this SUV. Stéphane Deblaise, appointed as the CEO of Renault Group India, is leading this project. In a recent interaction, he confirmed that the Bridger project is well on track.
Renault will take a multi-powertrain pathway with the Bridger. It will have petrol, strong hybrid and all-electric versions. The petrol versions will be offered with 1.2L naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines. The naturally aspirated engine is expected to make around 90hp whereas the turbo-petrol could have an output of 120hp. A factory-fitted CNG version is also expected.

The strong hybrid version will use a newly-developed 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder hybrid engine, running on Miller cycle. The hybrid setup will consist of a battery pack, electric motor and related hardware.
And finally, the Bridger is also expected to get an EV version in the future. It is likely to offer two battery options- likely 35 kWh and 55 kWh units. The larger could deliver a range of about 500 km per charge. The vehicle will also have support for DC fast charging and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging. The internal combustion version is expected to go on sale in 2027 and the EV could follow soon.
