We all know that the Japanese automaker Nissan, in the last few years, has struggled a lot in India. However, in the last few months, things have started to change, and the company is coming back on track. Recently, during an interview, Nissan India's Managing Director confirmed that, to make a big comeback, the company will be launching three new products within a span of 12 months. Out of these three launches, one has already been launched, and two more will be launched soon.

The first vehicle which has been launched under Nissan's three-product strategy is the recently launched Nissan Gravite. This new affordable 7-seater MPV has become an important addition to the company's portfolio. This is because it has given Nissan a major sales boost. The Gravite is based on the same platform as the Renault Triber and offers practical seating for large families who are looking to buy a vehicle in the affordable segment.
As per the sales figures, Nissan Gravite managed to record sales of 2,375 units in March 2026. However, in April 2026, its sales dropped to 1,428 units, a month-on-month decline of 39.87 percent. However, despite this decline, the Gravite is still very important for Nissan because it contributes a share of the brand's overall volumes.
In April 2026, Nissan recorded total sales of 3,203 units. This means that the Gravite alone contributed a sizable portion of the company's monthly sales. As for the total Nissan sales in May 2026, the company managed to dispatch a total of 2,948 units. In the same month last year, the company dispatched 1,354 units, which gives it a Year-on-Year growth of 117.7 percent. When compared on a Month-on-Month basis, the sales, however, dipped by 8 percent.

Now, coming to the second biggest launch under Nissan's new strategy, it will be the all-new Tekton SUV. The company has already confirmed that the SUV will make its debut on July 9. The Tekton will be one of the most important launches for Nissan in recent years, as the company, after the discontinuation of the Terrano, has not launched any new affordable mid-size SUV in India that has helped it in boosting its sales.
This segment is currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. Nissan's partner Renault has also launched its new-generation Duster in India, and it has been receiving a lot of praise.
Now, coming to the details of the Nissan Tekton, this upcoming SUV is expected to feature a bold exterior design with a large grille, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs and headlights, and strong road presence. Nissan is expected to position the Tekton as a premium family SUV. On the inside, like the Duster, it will come loaded with features including dual screens, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, ADAS Level 2, a panoramic sunroof, and many others.

One of the biggest highlights of the Nissan Tekton will be its powertrain lineup. Like the Duster, it is also expected to be offered with three different powertrain choices. The first will be the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will make 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. It will cater to buyers who want a budget-friendly yet strong-performance engine offering.
Nissan will also be offering the Tekton with a more performance-oriented 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, which will make 163 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque. Lastly, the company will launch this SUV with a strong hybrid powertrain as well. It will include a 1.8-litre engine, which will come paired with an electric motor and another hybrid starter generator. Also, it will come with a 1.4 kWh battery pack as well. In total, it will make 160 PS and 172 Nm of torque.

After the launch of the standard Tekton, Nissan, by the first or second quarter of next year, will introduce a larger three-row SUV based on the same platform. This SUV will become the flagship model in Nissan India's lineup. The upcoming seven-seat SUV will target buyers who want additional practicality and seating capacity.
It is expected to rival popular models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus. The larger 7-seater Tekton SUV is expected to be offered with two engine options. These will include a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain.
