The next big launch from Nissan in India will be the Tekton. Set to launch on July 9, 2026, it will be a mid-size SUV that will compete with the Hyundai Creta, second-generation Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris and more. Interestingly, the Tekton will share its engines, platform and factory with the third-generation Duster. Here’s a closer look at it.

In terms of size, the Tekton is expected to closely mirror the new-generation Duster. It will likely measure 4,343 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, and 1,659 mm in height. The wheelbase is expected to stand at 2,657 mm and the ground clearance at 212mm.

All of us know how the third-generation Duster looks. It has a tall, upright stance. The same is expected on the Nissan SUV as well. However, the Tekton’s design will align with Nissan’s global SUV styling direction. The carmaker hasn't ,however, revealed the design of this SUV officially.
Teaser images suggest that the Tekton’s design will have a clear influence of the company’s global SUV nameplates like the Patrol. The SUV will come with a large grille, sleek LED headlamps with unique DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels (different from those on the Duster), chunky bumpers, squared-off wheel arches, roof-mounted spoiler, connected LED tail lamps, and a high bonnet line. Overall, the Tekton will have clear visual differentiation from the Duster. It will have a unique visual identity.

The Tekton is expected to have Nissan-specific design cues inside as well. The dashboard will likely get more soft-touch materials, blue and black accents and Copper-coloured trims. Nissan wants to showcase its fine Japanese craftsmanship with these improvements.
The overall dashboard design and layout will resemble those of the Duster. The feature list will also be the same. The Tekton will thus come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six-speaker Arkamys audio, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, wireless charger, electronic parking brake (EPB), level 2 ADAS, 48-colour ambient lighting, and more.

The Tekton will be based on the same platform as the Duster- the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform). This is, in fact, a derivative of the global CMF-B platform with a more advanced Electrical and Electronics (E&E) backbone. This allows the integration of built-in Google. The RGMP is versatile and can support various body styles and vehicle lengths.
The engine options will also be shared with the Duster. At launch, the Tekton will be offered with two turbocharged petrol engines- 1.0L turbo petrol making 98hp and 160Nm and a more powerful 1.3L turbocharged petrol making 160hp and 280Nm.
The smaller petrol engine will be offered only with a manual gearbox while the 1.3L unit will come with two transmission options- manual and a six-speed wet clutch DCT automatic.
Renault has plans to introduce a 1.8L strong hybrid petrol engine on the Duster sometime around Diwali. The same will also make its way into Tekton in the near future.
It will have a 1.8L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 1.4kWh battery pack and two electric motors, one of which will act as a generator. This setup is expected to deliver excellent fuel efficiency. Mated to this powertrain will be an 8-speed clutchless, high-torque transmission. The combined output is likely to be around 160hp.

When launched, the Tekton will enter a highly competitive segment. The mid-size SUV space now has a bunch of well-packaged, highly competitive products like the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Renault Duster, Honda Elevate and more. Finding success isn’t easy. The Tekton will need a sharp pricing here. For perspective, the Duster sits in the Rs 10.49 lakh- 18.49 lakh bracket. A similar price can be expected for the Nissan counterpart.
The Tekton will be made at the same factory as the Duster. Nissan doesn’t currently have stakes in the Oragadam facility, but has reserved production capacity of 240,000 units per year. A part of this will be utilised for producing the Tekton. The company also has plans to launch a seven-seater SUV based on the RGMP platform sometime in early 2027. It will also be made at the same facility.
