Nissan is gearing up to re-enter the high-demand mid-size SUV segment with Tekton. Essentially a badge-engineered version of the third-generation Renault Duster, it will launch on July 9, 2026. The company will also launch a seven-seater SUV which the top officials describe as a ‘very exciting product’ in early 2027.

The Tekton will be Nissan’s version of the Duster. It was originally expected to be out around April this year. It, however, got slightly delayed. Recently, Nissan India’s Managing Director, Saurabh Vatsa confirmed that the Tekton will be out in July.
The actual launch date surfaced soon after- July 9th. The vehicle, from what we know, is currently in its production-ready form. It is, in fact, undergoing final validation and testing. Vatsa also said that the company itself is in the “preparedness phase” now.

The carmaker had previously put out some teaser images giving clues of the vehicle’s possible design. Styling will be one of the biggest factors differentiating the Tekton from its Renault cousin. It will have Nissan’s signature design genes and will differ sharply from the Duster in the way it looks.
The design at large, is expected to take inspiration from global SUV nameplates like the Patrol. If you didn’t know it yet, the Patrol is one of the most iconic Nissans on sale now, globally. It competes with models like the Land Cruiser LC300 and Range Rover- the Japanese manufacturer’s SUV flagship!
Reports say that Nissan has internally nicknamed the Tekton ‘Baby Patrol’. It will have a bold, muscular stance. You’ll see an imposing front fascia with a large grille, uniquely styled LED DRLs, sleek headlamps, and chunky bumpers. The vehicle will also have squared-off wheel arches, and a high bonnet line.

At the rear, you’ll find connected LED tail lamps and a bold bumper. The design of the 18-inch alloy wheels is also expected to be interesting. Nissan hasn’t revealed the design of this SUV completely, yet. So, we can’t comment more on the finer details.
Nissan hasn’t revealed the Tekton’s interior design yet. It is likely to stand close to that of the Duster, but with a clear incorporation of Nissan’s signature styling cues. Interior trims are likely to have an upmarket feel, expressing fine Japanese craftsmanship.
On the equipment front, the Tekton is likely to remain identical to the new-generation Duster. It will then offer features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six-speaker Arkamys audio, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, built-in Google integration, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents and front ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging bay, level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, 48-colour ambient lighting, electronic parking brake (EPB) and more. Getting the equipment array right is essential for finding success in the mid-size SUV segment.

The Tekton will share its underpinnings and engines with the Duster. It will be based on the same RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform) platform as the Renault SUV. This is a more-advanced derivative of the global CMF-B platform. It is a multi-energy platform that can support various vehicle lengths and body styles.
The Tekton will be offered with two engine options- 1.0L turbocharged petrol and 1.3L, four cylinder turbo-petrol. The former makes 98hp and 160Nm on the Duster while the latter produces 160hp and 280Nm. These are likely to remain unchanged on the Tekton as well. Nissan may also add a 1.8L strong hybrid setup to the vehicle, later.

From what we know, the Tekton seems to be a promising product. However, the company will have to price it competitively to find success in the mid-size SUV space. It will compete with models like the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, second-generation Kia Seltos and others. Renault has priced the Duster well- it sits in the Rs 10.49 lakh- 18.49 lakh bracket. Nissan will likely take a similar approach and keep the Tekton’s prices close to the Duster’s.
