Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., as part of its new brand strategy, had big plans for the Indian market. The company announced last year that it would be launching not one but three new products in the Indian market. One of them was the Nissan Gravite, which is a B-MPV that was launched in the market a few weeks ago.

Apart from Gravite, Nissan also has plans to launch two new SUVs to strengthen its presence in the market. One of them is going to be the Nissan Tekton and a 7-seater version of the same. Tekton is a mid-size SUV and it is actually Nissan’s version of the Renault Duster. The launch of the Nissan Tekton is expected to happen in the coming months. Here is what the engine options on the upcoming Tekton SUV would look like.

In terms of engine options, Nissan will be following Renault. It will be offered with the same set of engine and transmission options as the Duster. This means we would see the Tekton with three engine options when it gets launched.

The first engine on this list is going to be the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This is actually the same engine that we have seen in the Nissan Magnite. This engine is called the HRA0 Series engine and is available in several Nissan and Renault models in India and abroad.
The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is a 3-cylinder unit that generates 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. The power and torque figures mentioned here are from the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. This engine is currently available with manual and CVT gearbox options.
However, there are reports that Renault has upgraded some components in the engine and tuned it differently. As per one of our sources, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will generate 100 PS and 180 Nm of torque. It should be noted that there is no official confirmation about these specifications yet. This engine will be offered in the Duster, and the same would make its way to the Tekton too. Usually, this engine is available with manual and CVT options; however, in the Tekton and Duster, it will likely be offered only in the lower variants with a manual transmission.
The next engine would be the 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 163 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque. In the Duster, this engine is called the TCe 160, where TCe stands for Turbo Control Efficiency and 160 represents the power output. The actual internal name of the engine is HR13 or HR13DDT.

The same engine would be seen in the Nissan Tekton as well. Just like the Duster, Nissan is expected to offer this engine with a manual and a 6-speed DCT gearbox. It would be a wet-clutch transmission which is specifically designed to prevent overheating in heavy start-stop traffic conditions, which are quite common on Indian roads.
This engine was jointly developed by Renault Group, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Motors, and Mercedes-Benz. For the same reason, this engine is also seen in many entry-level Mercedes models sold in India and abroad.
This third engine is probably the one that would set the Duster and Tekton apart from the competition. While the first two engines would be offered at the time of launch, this strong hybrid engine will likely be introduced only around the festive season this year in the Duster. We will have to wait and see whether Nissan will follow a different strategy or stick to Renault’s timeline.

This is a 1.8-litre strong hybrid engine. The 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine generates 109 PS and is paired with a 49 PS electric motor and another 20 PS hybrid starter generator. This is going to be one of the most efficient systems in the segment, as it will come with a 1.4 kWh battery pack.
Renault, at the time of the Duster event, had mentioned that this system is so efficient that up to 80 percent of city driving could be done in EV mode, which would result in excellent fuel efficiency. The combined output of this system is 160 PS and 172 Nm. This engine is paired with an 8-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
