Hyundai is working on the next generation of its popular hatchback- the i20. Set to make its global debut next month, it will have a completely new design. Hyundai recently put out a teaser previewing the headlamp and LED DRL designs of the new i20. Based on the same, we have created some renders showing what the next-generation i20 could look like.

As you can see in these images, the new i20 will have a taller, more upright stance. The ground clearance will also be more than that of the current model. These combined, will signal a shift towards crossover-like styling.
The current model, if you see, has a proper hatchback-like design. It will have a sharp headlamp design with Y-shaped DRLs and a connected LED light bar. The front fascia also has a reworked bumper and a revised grille section. The lines and creases on the bonnet will also be redrawn.
It will have a new set of wheels- likely 17-inch units- and a different silhouette. The window line seems to rise as it moves toward the rear. The A pillar and C pillar will have a steeper rake than those of the outgoing model. The C-pillar will be thicker than the one on the current car. The render has pull-type door handles. You will also get a shark-fin antenna on the new model.
At the rear, the new i20 will likely come with a set of connected LED tail lamps and a new bumper. The tailgate design will be new as well. Finally, the dimensions of the new generation will be revised. It will be larger than the current model. It will be longer, wider and taller than the current car. The wheelbase will also be longer. The larger dimensions will translate to a stronger road presence and more cabin space.

Being a full generational update, the new i20 will come with a new cabin design and a longer list of features. The overall cabin experience will take a noticeable leap forward. More premium trims and a stronger focus on technology are both to be expected.
One of the biggest upgrades will be the introduction of new displays, possibly in the form of a curved screen setup. This will replace the current 10.25-inch touchscreen and the basic digital cluster.
The new infotainment unit will likely have support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and will come paired with a premium audio system. The hatchback will also get more connected car features. Features like ventilated seats are also likely to be added to it. Hyundai may also equip it with an ADAS suite, although the same hasn’t been confirmed officially.

The current i20 is offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine on the regular version and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol on the N Line. The 1.5L diesel engine is no more on sale in India. The next-generation model will likely retain these powertrains.
Hyundai is also known to be working on a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine for use on its future models. The specifics of this engine aren’t known. But we expect it to be offered on the new i20 as well. It will be hybrid ready, and that hints at the possibility of a hybrid i20 launching sometime in the future.
The i20 has had good acceptance in India. We expect Hyundai to launch the next-generation model here toward the end of this year.
