Toyota is preparing for a major SUV launch in the Indian market. The new, ninth-generation Hilux is expected to go on sale soon. Confirming this, the truck was recently seen in India without any camouflage. With the India-debut just weeks away, here is everything you need to know about the new Hilux.

The vehicle spotted in India was finished in the signature Sulphur Yellow colour. The design remained identical to that of the global SUV. This indicates that India will get the same spec and design as the model sold overseas.
The new-generation Hilux will also be based on Toyota’s ‘QDR’ foundation- Quality, Durability, and Reliability. It is claimed to have a future-focussed design. The new Hilux definitely looks better than the outgoing model. It looks more sophisticated, but not to the extent of getting fans upset.
The upcoming Hilux will have a new front fascia. It is called the ‘Cyber Sumo’ face. The fascia resembles the pre-combat Shikiri Stance of a Sumo wrestler. Hence the name. It will have a unique front grille, ‘TOYOTA’ spelled out instead of a conventional logo, a new front bumper, sleek headlamps and circular fog lamps. LED DRLs will sit inside the headlamp units.

The side view will remain largely identical to that of the current Hilux. The same dual-cab, four door design. Windows, pillars, and doors will remain almost the same as before. However, slight changes are expected towards the rear. The deck will have side steps. The wheels will also be new. The rear design will be cleaner than that of its predecessor. The tail lamps will have a sharper design.

The upcoming Hilux will feature a new interior design and will have more features. Toyota’s ‘Robust SImplicity’ philosophy will reflect inside. There will be a strong focus on ergonomics and overall comfort.
The new Hilux is expected to come with features like an electronic parking brake with auto hold, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, a new freestanding infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Both screens are likely to be 12.3-inch units.
The infotainment unit will likely run Toyota’s latest-generation software and will have faster responses. It will also come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new truck will be equipped with ‘Toyota Safety Sense 3’ ADAS suite. Also expected is a multi-terrain monitor. The vehicle will also come with a new three-spoke steering wheel. Overall, the new truck's cabin will be a more comfortable place to be in.

The new Hilux will be underpinned by an improved version of the IMV platform. In International markets, the higher trims feature a ‘Dynamic Cloud’ suspension system. It remains to be seen if this would be brought to India as well. The new Hilux will have a rigid steering column, an electronic power steering and a Multi-Terrain Select system.
The India-spec is expected to be powered by the same 2.8L GD turbocharged diesel engine as the outgoing model. It will feature idle start/stop and a 48V hybrid system for improved fuel efficiency- expect an increase of up to 7.5%. The engine will make 204hp and 500Nm. Both manual and automatic transmissions are likely to be offered.
Like its predecessor, the new Hilux will also be a capable off-roader and will come with capable 4x4 hardware. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 29 lakh- Rs 37 lakh, ex-showroom.
