MG Windsor is a hot-selling EV model. First launched in September 2024, it is now available in two different iterations- the standard and the long range ‘Pro’. In late April, JSW MG Motor India introduced a new affordable variant of the Windsor EV. Called the ‘Commute’, this trim is targeted primarily at fleet segment buyers. Now, a video showing the Windsor Commute trim in detail has been shared on YouTube.
This video has been shared on the channel ‘Team Auto Trend’. It shows the Windsor Commute trim finished in White. This trim has an ex-showroom price of Rs 13.49 lakh. The host starts by explaining the market positioning of the Windsor Commute.
Its target audience is the yellow board EV buyers and fleet operators. This is a less explored segment. The taxi EV segment has the dominance of Tata Motors. Remember the X-Press T sedan? The Windsor Commute pitches itself in as a more spacious, more comfortable alternative.
On the design front, the overall shape and silhouette remain same as those of the regular Windsor EV. One notable difference is in the wheels. Unlike the regular EV that comes with aero-optimised alloy wheels, this trim gets 17-inch steel wheels with Apollo tyres.

It lacks the illuminated MG logo and LED connected DRLs at the front, The headlamps and indicator lamps are both LED units. The vehicle, however, has flush-type door handles. At the rear, there is no ‘Windsor’ branding. You can only see a ‘Commute’ lettering at the rear. There are no connected LED tail lamps either.
The host also talks about its battery capacity, range and charging. The Commute trim comes with the 38kWh battery pack that claims a range of 332 km per charge. Customer testimonials have indicated that real-life figures can be as much as 300 km per charge.
The Windsor Commute’s Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor makes 134hp and 200Nm. The acceleration is fairly brisk and DC charging takes about 45 minutes. Home-charging over a 7.4kW point takes around 7 hours.

As the video progresses, the host starts talking about the features offered on the Windsor Commute. A lot of stripping down has happened on this front. The vehicle lacks a reverse parking camera and 360-degree camera, but comes with four rear parking sensors. It, however, comes with smart keys, remote boot unlock buttons, one-touch down function for all windows,
The interior design and layout remain the same. But the trims, colours and finishes have changed. The cabin doesn’t feel as plush or upmarket as that of the regular Windsor. It, however, gets multiple Champagne Gold accents.

The large,10.1-inch, central touchscreen that you see on the normal Windsor goes missing on the Commute trim. Some of its functions have been integrated into the 7-inch LCD instrument cluster. The stock infotainment unit on this variant is very basic- offers limited functions like USB, FM and Bluetooth, and a single-speaker audio system. The company has given the vehicle more physical controls than the regular Windsor.
Other features include manual air conditioning system, manual ORVMs, single rear AC vent, cruise control, multiple USB charging points (both Type C and Type A available), tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring system, and more. The rear seats offer recline function and good amount of space.

The safety suite consists of dual airbags, hill hold assist, three-point seat belts, and four disc brakes. The Commute variant comes with 604 litres of boot space. The company doesn’t offer a spare wheel on this variant. It comes with a puncture repair kit instead.
In short, the Commute variant packs good value for its price, despite the strip-down that has happened in terms of features and equipment offered. Dealer sources have indicated that the BaaS system also extends to this trim, effectively reducing the upfront price. The Commute is around Rs 61,000 less than the Excite trim- the base variant of regular Windsor.
