India’s electric vehicle landscape has been evolving rapidly. EVs have been growing steadily in acceptance and JSW MG Motor India has emerged as a top player. It has, in fact, had consistent growth in electric car sales. More importantly, it has been able to maintain the momentum despite a steady increase in competition.

Let’s take a closer look at JSW-MG’s EV numbers. In the calendar year 2024, it sold 28,882 electric vehicles. Back then its EV portfolio had the ZS EV, Comet and the Windsor that launched in September that year. The Windsor, in fact, brought about a major increase in sales.
In 2025, JSW-MG posted wholesales of 61,171 EVs, translating to a massive 111% growth over the previous year. This count also included over 1500 units of ‘MG Select’ products- the M9 and Cyberster. These were both launched in July 2025.
Now, here’s another set of numbers. In the first four months of 2026 (January- April), MG sold 17,539 electric vehicles. Of these, 1000 odd units were MG Select products. In the first four months of 2025, it had posted sales of 16220 units, indicating a 9% growth this year.
A deeper analysis of these numbers reveals that the sales and acceptance of both M9 and Cyberster have increased steadily over time. The Cyberster has, in fact, become India’s best-selling electric sports car.
In the larger picture, JSW MG Motor India seems to have compelling products strategically placed in both mass-market and luxury/ premium segments. Together, they are keeping the sales momentum strong, giving the carmaker the edge it deserves in EV sales.

Commendable here is the fact that this is happening amidst rising competition. The competition in the EV space has lately been getting increasingly fierce. Companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra have lately been going bullish on EVs.
Tata Motors has long been the leader in the EV game, and has a wide range of all-electric products on sale here. Even so, JSW-MG has managed to take the number one spot in sales with the Windsor EV multiple times. Mahindra now has multiple products in strategically significant segments. These include both skateboard-based born-electrics and internal combustion conversions.
Companies like Hyundai, Kia and Maruti Suzuki too are now in the game with products like the Creta Electric, Carens Clavis EV and eVitara. Toyota will soon launch its version of the eVitara, under the name eBella. Even new entrants like Vinfast have been very aggressive with product launches lately and have been playing the price game well. The competition has been rising even in the luxury space. All these may have put more pressure on MG, but its growth stayed steady.

JSW-MG’s electric vehicle portfolio in India consists of three main models- Comet EV, Windsor EV and the ZS EV. These belong to segments with high customer interest. The Comet EV, priced in the range of Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 10.57 lakh, ex-showroom, appeals to people who are looking for a budget-friendly urban EV.
The Windsor is for families, and is available in two distinct avatars- standard and long range (Pro). It has been MG’s load-bearing EV model for a long time. It remains the carmaker’s single highest-selling model. People love it for the space and comfort offered, and the flexibility brought about by the long-range powertrain.

In the high-end EV space, the Cyberster’s unexpected success has helped the carmaker to keep the momentum going. Its theatrical design, convertible body style, strong electric powertrain, breathtaking performance and usable nature have impressed many. The biggest hook, however, is the value proposition. The Cyberster offers a proper sportscar experience at just Rs 77.5 lakh. All these have led to its acceptance.
Even the M9, claimed to be India’s first all-electric ultra-luxury MPV, packs much value with its ex-showroom price of Rs 75.90 lakh. These models have gained traction in our market over the past few months, giving MG a strong foothold in the luxury space. The brand will soon introduce another high-end electric car in the form of the iM6 luxury crossover, which is expected to rival the Tesla Model Y.
