The Toyota Fortuner enjoys stellar acceptance in India. The Legender was first launched in 2021, as a more urban-focussed version of the Fortuner. It came with more features and a better cabin experience than the regular SUV. MG is set to launch the Majestor, a tech-heavy SUV, in the coming weeks. Let’s see how the Majestor compares with the Legender and what it offers over the Toyota SUV.

Let’s start with the dimensions. The Majestor is one size larger than the Legender. It measures 5,046 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width and 1,876 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The Legender, on the other hand, is 4,795 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,835 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,745 mm.
The Majestor is bigger in all dimensions- 251mm longer, 151mm wider and has a 205 longer wheelbase. This upper hand translates into more room inside, particularly in the second and third rows.

Both SUVs pack distinct visual appeals and are likeable. However, it is just the Majestor that offers maximum colour choices. It can be had in Metal Black, Pearl White, Metal Ash and Concrete Grey. The Legender, however, is offered only in a single colour option- Platinum White Pearl With Black Roof.
There is a noticeable difference between the two when it comes to features. The Majestor comes with an extensive list of features while the Legender takes a more conservative approach.

On the Majestor, you get LED headlamps, three-zone climate control, 64 colour ambient lighting, powered and ventilated front seats with massage function and memory function, 12.3-inch HD portrait Infotainment system, 12-speaker JBL audio, 360-degree camera, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, wireless charging pads, level 2 ADAS, and more.

The Legender, on the other hand, gets the likes of a 360-degree camera, 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 11-speaker JBL sound system, two-zone climate control, ventilated seats, single wireless charger, powered tailgate, cruise control and more. Notably, it lacks features like the panoramic sunroof, massage function for the front row, tyre pressure ADAS, and even a digital instrument cluster. The cluster here is an analogue unit with digital multi information display (MID). It is definitely the MG that takes the lead in terms of equipment offered.
The Majestor is only available with a 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine making 213 hp and 478Nm. It comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Legender can be had with a normal 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine and a 48V mild hybrid version of the same.
The former can be had with a manual and an automatic transmission, producing 201hp and 420Nm, and 210hp and 500Nm respectively. The mild hybrid version makes 201hp and 500Nm and comes only with the 6-speed automatic transmission and in the 4Wheel Drive guise. The Majestor’s engine produces more power but it is the Fortuner that takes the lead in actual torque.

Now, let’s talk about off-roading abilities. The Legender, despite being described as an ‘urban oriented version’, is a capable off-roader. The Majestor enjoys a massive advantage in terms of off-road abilities- at least on paper. It comes with three differential locks, crawl control with selectable speeds, 10 terrain modes and a slew of other electronics that boost its ability to be taken to terrains. The Legender feels less equipped in terms of off-road hardware and electronics, although it is very capable.
The Majestor has a clear edge over the Legender on several fronts. The Toyota is currently priced between Rs 42.17 lakh and Rs 47.46 lakh, ex-showroom and has a solid brand image in India. It is also known for its reliable nature. To beat it in sales, MG will have to give the Majestor a compelling price tag- one that would stuff immense value into it.
