MG Motor India will launch the much-awaited Majestor SUV in India on April 20, 2026. The carmaker had officially revealed it on February 20th, giving out key details. With days left for the launch, here’s what to expect.

When launched, the majestor will come in two broad trims- Sharp and Savvy. Both 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive versions will be available, with the latter kept exclusive to the Savvy trim. The variant lineup will be Sharp 4x2, Savvy 4x2 and Savvy 4x4.
The Majestor will be sold through MG’s standard dealerships, and not the ‘Select’ network. This decision could work in its favour, given the wider reach and accessibility of regular showrooms.

The Majestor is considered ‘India’s first D+ segment SUV’ and measures over five metres in length. The width and height are 2016mm and 1870mm respectively.
MG had previously showcased it at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It is expected to replace the Gloster in MG’s domestic lineup. Even in its design, the Majestor will be much more upmarket than the Gloster. It is based on the Maxus D90 and is sold in markets like Kuwait as the MG Rakan.

What stands out immediately is the massive road presence. The design is bold and upright, but not shouty. At the front, you will see vertically stacked three-pod LED headlamps, distinctive LED DRLs, a new bumper with an integrated skid plate, and a large ‘Mozaic Matrix’ grille finished in black.
Along the sides, the SUV gets big, 19-inch alloy wheels, chunky wheel arches and a heavy body cladding. At the rear, you will notice connected LED tail lamps, stylish rear bumper, and twin exhaust tips.

The Majestor’s interior looks modern and is tech-heavy. It comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 12-speaker JBL sound system. It gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well. Additionally, the feature list also includes dual wireless charging pads, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch digital driver’s display and three-zone climate control, rear AC vents, powered tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functions, and more.

On the safety front, the Majestor comes equipped with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and all-four disc brakes. Both ends get parking sensors.

Mechanically, the Majestor retains the proven setup from the Gloster- a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine that makes 213 hp and 479 Nm, paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Where the Majestor truly differentiates itself is in its off-road hardware. Underpinned by a rugged ladder-frame chassis, the SUV gets three-differential locks (front, centre and rear), 10 terrain modes, and selectable crawl control. This combination gives it serious off-road credentials. MG even demonstrated the same by taking it to Mount Japfu, the second-highest peak in Nagaland.

When launched, this MG SUV will compete directly with the Toyota Fortuner (and its more luxurious counterpart- Legender). The Fortuner/Legender is also a ladder-frame SUV known for being a capable off-roader. It has been dominating the space for long.
The Majestor has an edge over it in terms of size, road presence, features and off-road abilities. If priced and positioned correctly, it could turn out to be a fierce rival to the Toyota. Brand perception and long-term reliability will also have key roles to play in shaping its success.
Other rivals to the Majestor in India include Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron R-Line. The D segment is set to get hotter in the coming years with the likes of Jetour T2 and ROX Adamas known to be on the cards.
