Major automakers including Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and MG have launched and constantly updated their 7-seater SUVs in India. However, of these, the most dominant vehicle in the market is from Mahindra, and it is none other than the newly launched XUV 7XO. Mahindra launched the XUV 7XO in January 2026, and deliveries started in mid-January itself. Ever since then, the SUV has become a hit. It is so popular that its sales are more than the combined sales of all SUVs that rival it.

First off, let's start with the sales figures from the month of January 2026 when it was launched. Mahindra sold a total of 10,133 units of the XUV 7XO in the first month of its launch. During the same month, Tata sold 2,375 units of the Safari, while Hyundai sold 962 units of the Alcazar. MG, on the other hand, managed just 334 units of the Hector. Combined together, these three SUVs posted sales of only 3,671 units.

Following this, the same continued in February as well. Mahindra sold 9,112 units of the XUV 7XO. Meanwhile, the combined sales of the Safari, Alcazar, and Hector stood at 3,761 units. After this, in March 2026, Mahindra sold 9,210 units of the XUV 7XO, 98 units more than in February. On the other hand, Tata Safari sales stood at 1,530 units, Hyundai Alcazar managed 893 units, and MG Hector posted 850 units. Combined together, these SUVs sold only 3,273 units.

As for the month of April, the XUV 7XO once again remained far ahead of its rivals. Mahindra sold 8,630 units, while the Safari, Alcazar, and Hector together managed 3,614 units. What makes these numbers even more impressive is that the XUV 7XO is a premium segment 7-seater, and despite this, its sales have been very strong. Pricing of the Mahindra XUV 7XO starts at Rs 13.66 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 25.07 lakh, ex-showroom.
The XUV 7XO, which is currently offered in six trims including AX, AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7T, and AX7L, is one of the most popular SUVs in the market. Now, there are a few reasons behind its success. Of these, the first is that the XUV 7XO boasts a very sharp design and overall appeal. Even though its dimensions are the same as the XUV700, which it has replaced, it looks a lot more aggressive and sporty, and it boasts a macho road presence.

The SUV now gets redesigned LED headlamps, new DRLs, a much larger grille, refreshed fog lamps, redesigned bumpers, and a more prominent skid plate. It also gets newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles. Overall, the XUV 7XO looks much more modern and premium than before.
Apart from the exterior, the interior of this SUV is also one of the reasons why it has become so successful. The SUV now gets the same massive triple-screen setup, which consists of three 12.3-inch displays, namely the infotainment, digital instrument cluster, and front passenger entertainment displays.

Its other major features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, and dual-zone climate control. The XUV 7XO also gets powered front seats with memory function, a 540-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, BYOD mounts, “Boss Mode” for the front passenger seat, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos support.
Another major reason behind its success is its powerful petrol and diesel engine offerings. Mechanically, the SUV offers the same engines as the XUV700. These include the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine, which produces 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, and the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which makes 182 bhp and 450 Nm.

Both engines are offered with manual and automatic gearbox options, which makes them even more versatile. The SUV in the higher trims also offers AWD. Mahindra has also reworked the suspension setup with new Davinci dampers, which have drastically improved the ride quality and handling balance of this SUV when compared to the XUV700.
Also, Mahindra offers the XUV 7XO with over 75 safety features, which include seven airbags and a recalibrated Level 2 ADAS suite that has specifically been tuned for Indian roads. Mahindra has also improved the overall camera quality and ADAS functionality on the SUV. As it is a 5-star safety-rated vehicle, it has become a complete package and is popular amongst 7-seater SUV buyers in India.

Mahindra, in order to add to the popularity of the XUV 7XO, is gearing up for the launch of its strong hybrid version as well. It has been reported that this version is expected to arrive by 2027. The upcoming hybrid SUV will most likely combine the existing petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This will help improve fuel efficiency, lower running costs, and provide better city drivability.
