Mahindra has showcased its all-new ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) based on the Thar ROXX at the the North Tech Symposium 2026. This event is being held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from 4 May to 6 May 2026. The ATV managed to turn a lot of heads with its design and ruggedness. Now, what appears to be the first video of it has surfaced online.
Shared on the X handle (previously Twitter) SF Boys, this video shows the ATV up close. Mahindra has built it specifically for the Indian army. The video begins by showing its side view. This ATV (or 'Tactical Overland Platform' as Mahindra calls it) can carry seven personnel, and gets two front-facing rows and two side-facing seats at the extreme rear. We can see a strong roll cage for added protection.
Instead of standard doors, this ATV has metal pipes. This has been done to reduce weight. Chairman Anand Mahindra has already confirmed the airdrop-readiness of this platform. Choosing metal pipes over standard doors also enhance visibility and make ingress and egress easier.

Interestingly, grab handles can be seen where we would find door hinges on the standard SUV. A multi-purpose shovel can be seen mounted just above the rear wheel. The rear fender also has MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) storage for keeping military gear.
There is no roof either. If you remember, the three-door Thar once used to offer a removable roof and even had a convertible. But the ROXX has always come with a fixed roof. That changes with the ATV. It looks like a barebone structure- without proper doors or roof.
The roll cage on the ATV can be used to mount a 360-degree turret compatible with a 7.62mm machine gun. In this video, what looks like a dummy AK-47 can be seen mounted here. The standard Thar ROXX has a ground clearance of 226mm. The ATV stands further off the ground, although we don’t have information on the exact clearance figures. It rides on 18-inch all-terrain tyres.

The video also shows metal ricks sliders installed on the sides of the ATV. These facilitate smooth commuting on tough, rocky terrains. The vehicle also comes with special underbody protection.
As the video progresses, we get to see the front view of the ATV. It shares a lot of cues with the standard ROXX. The bonnet, grille and headlamps look almost identical. It even gets the C-shaped LED DRLs. The ATV, however, gets a chunkier bumper and a winch to pull it out of challenging environments.
The front windshield gets an additional layer of protection, which can also be seen in the video here. This metal tube can also be used to mount auxiliary lamps. The bonnet even has a farm jack to assist with repairs.
From what is visible in the video, the vehicle gets fabric seats and a dashboard design that looks almost the one on the regular ROXX.
Though not shown in this video, the tailgate gets jerrycan holders and a double sparewheel carrier. The ATV’s reinforced hoist brackets ensure airdrop-readiness.

The regular Thar ROXX offers two engine options- 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol. The ATV is powered by the diesel engine. It makes 172hp and 400Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. This vehicle is also equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain. The suspension setup comprises a double wishbone at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. The rear suspension can also be opted for with independent springs.
