Mahindra is one of the leading SUV manufacturers in India. Mahindra offers several premium SUVs, and one of the main reasons why many Mahindra UVs are popular among customers is because they are often seen as value-for-money products. Like any brand, Mahindra is constantly working to come up with new innovations and product strategies. Mahindra not only sells these SUVs in India but also exports them to international markets. Here we have a set of nine images through which we try to explain how Mahindra is planning to up its game in India as well as in international markets.

Mahindra, as mentioned above, is known for offering several premium cars to the Indian market at affordable prices. This is one of the major reasons why it is often preferred by customers looking for SUVs. In CY25, Mahindra secured the second spot in the passenger vehicle segment in terms of sales, leaving brands like Hyundai and Tata behind.
Because the average selling cost of most Mahindra products is higher, it also helped them record an increase in yearly revenue. In that particular year, Mahindra had a market share of around 13.3 percent.

From there onwards, the brand’s aim is to only make things better, and in order to do that, Mahindra decided to expand its portfolio by bringing in new and better products. This includes both ICE and electric vehicles.
On one side, Mahindra will continue to offer body-on-frame SUVs that are rugged, utilitarian, and feature-loaded at the same time. They also have plans to expand their lineup in the electric vehicle segment.

Coming back to ICE models, Mahindra also showcased a bunch of new concepts last year and announced the name of the new platform on which future Mahindra SUVs will be based. It is called NU_IQ, and it is a flexible, multi-energy modular monocoque platform that will be seen in next-generation Mahindra SUVs. This platform is tailored for SUVs in the 3.9-metre to 4.3-metre segment. As part of the unveiling, Mahindra showcased Vision S, Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT to the media.
In order to ensure that Mahindra makes cars that are appealing not only to the Indian audience but also to international markets, they are taking design very seriously. In an interaction with a media publication, Pratap Bose, Chief Designer at Mahindra, said, “We (Mahindra) will never make something that is vanilla (from a design perspective).”

Mahindra stated that they are focusing on design because they are targeting not only the Indian market but also overseas customers. They want Mahindra products to be head-turning and meet global standards. This is the reason why many modern Mahindra vehicles have premium designs. Another noticeable change in newer Mahindra cars is that the brand is now giving importance to aerodynamics rather than simply building boxy SUVs.

Going forward, Mahindra aims to cater to customers across multiple segments. To achieve this, Mahindra has divided its entire lineup into three parts. They will have a utilitarian segment, which will also include lifestyle SUVs, a premium lineup, and an expanded EV portfolio.
In the utilitarian segment, Mahindra currently has products like the Scorpio N and the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which are sold in India as well as international markets. The XUV 700 has already received an update, and the Scorpio N is next in line. Apart from this, Mahindra is also working on next-generation pick-up trucks for overseas markets. The Scorpio Getaway, which is made in India, is exported to many markets. They also have a Scorpio N-based pick-up undergoing tests in different parts of the country. There is a possibility that Mahindra might launch this pick-up in India and export it to other markets soon.
One of the first next-generation Mahindra SUVs to come to our market is going to be the Vision S. It is expected to be a sub-4-metre SUV with a boxy, utilitarian design. It is likely to be launched next year and will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options, along with manual and automatic transmissions. As it is based on the NU_IQ platform, hybrid and EV versions might also be introduced in the future.
Apart from this, Mahindra will also launch an affordable version of the Mahindra Thar Roxx in the market. This version will use a smaller 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine like the 3-door Thar. This would help Mahindra bring down the entry-level price of the Thar Roxx and compete with Korean and Japanese rivals in the segment.

The electric vehicle segment for Mahindra has also been performing well recently. They launched India’s first premium mass-segment 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S. In simple terms, it is the electric version of the XUV 7XO. The BE6 and the XEV 9E have polarising designs, which is probably one of the reasons why they haven’t picked up strongly in terms of sales. However, the case of the XEV 9S is different. In February 2026, Mahindra sold over 3,539 units of this seven-seater EV. It surpassed the MG Windsor EV and the Tata Nexon EV, becoming not only the best-selling EV for Mahindra but also the best-selling EV in the segment.

Apart from the three existing born-electric EVs, Mahindra is also working on two more electric SUVs based on concepts showcased a few years ago. To make EVs more popular among buyers, Mahindra will also offer more battery pack options. Currently, they offer 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options. Last year, they introduced a 70 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of 600 km, 242 bhp, and 380 Nm of peak torque. This new battery option will be offered in the BE6, XEV 9E, and future EVs from Mahindra.

Coming to the SUV lineup in India, Mahindra will be making necessary updates to models like the Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, and the 3-door Thar to retain customer interest. The Scorpio N will get cosmetic updates like a bigger grille, new alloy wheels, and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The Scorpio Classic is also expected to get minor cosmetic updates. The 3-door Thar will get a revised front grille, Roxx-like LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, automatic climate control, and more features.

To summarise, Mahindra will keep the ICE vehicles with SUVs at its core and will build on other segmets like EVs to ensure that they are not taken by surprise when the emission and environmental norms are implemented. This is how Mahindra is currently planning to keep up with the competition in India while also preparing for international markets.
