JSW this year announced its entry into the Indian market as an independent car manufacturer. As part of the strategy, they tied up with Chinese carmaker Chery, and we also have an idea of what models JSW plans to bring to India when they officially launch. One of the models in their lineup is the Jetour T2. It is a popular SUV in China and many other international markets for its value-for-money proposition. JSW is currently testing the SUV in India, and we recently came across a video where the Jetour T2 was spotted testing up in the mountains.
The video has been shared by Autohybridtech on their YouTube channel as a short clip. It was probably recorded by a tourist visiting the hills. As the vehicle was passing through narrow and winding mountain roads, we see a heavily camouflaged car behind a truck.
The camera car moves closer to the test vehicle, and we soon realise that the rear of the SUV seen here is different from any other model currently on sale in India. As per the video, the SUV was spotted in Ladakh, and it seems JSW is currently conducting high-altitude testing with the vehicle before launching it.

We can clearly see the vertical LED turn indicators blinking in the video. The Jetour T2 is expected to be launched around the festive season this year, and it is also likely to be the first model to debut in the Indian market under the JSW badge. It remains to be seen whether JSW will retain the Jetour T2 name or change it.
JSW has already started inviting interested dealers to partner with them. The Jetour T2 will be offered as a CKD unit, which will be assembled at JSW’s upcoming manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. As we already know, the Jetour T2 will be offered as a plug-in hybrid SUV.
As seen in the video, it is a large SUV with a boxy design that resembles the Land Rover Defender. In terms of size, the Jetour T2 is bigger than the Tata Safari.

In terms of features, the Jetour T2 will come with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will have minimal physical buttons, with controls for AC, the panoramic sunroof, and ORVMs integrated into the touchscreen. It will also come with a wireless phone charger, Level 2 ADAS, multiple terrain/drive modes, and more.
The Jetour T2 will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. As this is a plug-in hybrid vehicle, the SUV will also have an electric motor and a large battery pack that is likely to offer an electric driving range of around 100 km. Internationally, it is available with both AWD and FWD configurations, and there is currently no clarity on which version India will get.
Since the Jetour T2 will be assembled as a CKD, it won’t be as expensive as a CBU. However, being a plug-in hybrid SUV, pricing will be crucial, especially in a highly competitive market like India.
