Like EVs, hybrid cars have also started gaining popularity among buyers in India. In the last 5 years, we have seen more hybrid cars get launched in the Indian market. In fact, there are two-wheelers that get mild-hybrid tech for better efficiency. Many brands have started offering strong hybrid models instead of diesels as they are efficient and less polluting than a diesel or a regular petrol engine. As per the reports, India’s hybrid car sales crossed 1.23 lakh units in FY26. Here are the best-selling hybrid cars in India along with their rankings.
Toyota Innova is a brand in itself, and it has been ruling the MPV segment for decades now. It was only recently that Toyota decided to launch the all-new Hycross in the market, and that too with a hybrid petrol engine instead of the usual diesel.

The hybrid petrol version had a huge waiting period due to its fuel efficiency, and that was one of the reasons why Toyota reintroduced the Crysta. In FY26, Toyota sold 62,586 units of Innova Hycross hybrids in the country. This accounts for 50.68 percent of sales in this segment.
The Hycross offers a decent amount of features along with a 2.0-litre NA petrol strong hybrid engine that is paired with an eCVT gearbox.

Second on this list is the Hyryder SUV. This is a mid-size SUV that was developed jointly by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota in India. It is available in both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid engine options. The strong hybrid engine is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, Atkinson-cycle unit that comes with an eCVT gearbox.
Last financial year, Toyota sold 35,745 units of Hyryder Hybrid SUVs in the country, and that helped it secure the second position.

The third SUV on this list is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, which is another version of the Hyryder mentioned above. It comes with the same set of features and engine options. The only difference is the exterior design. The 1.5-litre strong hybrid engine and transmission are also the same. Maruti sold 11,739 units of the Grand Vitara in the last financial year.

The Invicto is actually a rebadged version of the Innova Hycross MPV. Unlike the Hycross, the Invicto is slightly more affordable as it comes with a lesser number of features. For example, it misses out on ADAS and is only available with the strong hybrid engine option. In FY26, Maruti sold 5,350 units of Invicto MPVs in the market.

Maruti launched the Victoris in September last year. Since then, Maruti has sold 5,350 units in the market. The Victoris is actually gaining popularity among buyers because it is the flagship Arena product, and it is actually a different version of the Grand Vitara with more features at a lower price. It is also available with the same engine options as the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. In the coming year, we expect the numbers to go up even more.

Toyota launched the 9th-generation Camry luxury sedan in the market last December. The exterior styling is completely different from the previous-generation model. The interior has also been revamped. It is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth-generation Hybrid System (THS 5). This luxury sedan, which costs around Rs 50 lakh, has a fuel efficiency of 25.5 kmpl. In FY25, Toyota sold 2,346 units of the Camry in India.

Another Toyota that is actually popular among celebrities and wealthy businessmen in India is the Vellfire. The Vellfire MPV has a starting price of around Rs 1.3 crore, and Toyota managed to sell 1,483 units of it in the last financial year. It is also powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid system.

Last on this list is the only mid-size sedan in the country to get a hybrid system - the Honda City. Honda is currently working on an update for the sedan, and the same is expected to get launched on 22 May this year.
As part of the update, Honda will make cosmetic changes to the exterior and update the cabin with more features too. With the rise in competition, the demand for the Honda City has come down despite it getting hybrid tech. In the last financial year, Honda sold 1,007 units of City hybrid sedans in the country.
