A lot of people who own the previous W222-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class want to upgrade to the latest-generation Mercedes-Maybach. However, if they were to sell their old car and buy a new one, they would have to spend over two crores. However, recently a video has been shared online in which a previous-generation S-Class has been converted into the latest-generation Maybach luxury sedan worth over Rs 2.8 crore.
This video showing the complete conversion process of the old Mercedes-Benz S-Class into the new Maybach has been shared on YouTube by Autorounders. For those who may not know, Autorounders is one of the most popular shops in India that converts old luxury cars into new cars using aftermarket body kits. In this video, the owner of the shop mentions that they have received this particular Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which is from the W222 generation.

It is the last-generation model, and now they will be converting it into the W223-generation Maybach S580, which costs Rs 2.8+ crore. He emphasizes that this is the first time in India that a W222-generation S-Class is being converted into the latest Maybach. He added that they visited the factory in China that manufactures the kit, and they bought it after checking its quality and fitment.
Next, he highlights that most of the converted Maybachs in India are from the W221 generation, and this is the first time for the W222-generation model. Soon after this, he starts showing the body parts that will be changed as part of this particular conversion. He highlights that they will be replacing the front bonnet, fenders, bumper, LED headlights, grille, and other elements.
As for the side profile, the biggest change will be the addition of the Maybach door skins. The owner of the shop in the video explains that they will be changing the outer skin of the doors without changing anything on the structural side. He emphasizes that this has to be done to add the motorized door handles, which pop in and out when the car is locked and unlocked.

The owner explains that this is a very tedious and time-consuming process, as they have to check the fitment and fit it perfectly with welding so that the door handles fit flush and work properly. He also mentions that the structure of the doors and the rest of the car remains the same, and hence there is no compromise to the safety of this sedan.
Moving to the rear end, he explains that the biggest alteration is done to the rear quarter panel, where new skin has to be welded to ensure the proper fitment of new Maybach-style LED taillights. Also, the tailgate, rear bumper, logos, and other trims get changed to complete the Maybach conversion.

Following the explanation, the video then shows the conversion process and the paint process. The owner highlights that, to keep the look as authentic as the original Maybach, they have given this sedan a dual-tone colour scheme, with champagne gold on the top half and obsidian black on the lower half. He added that they have also added perfect coachlines, which take a lot more precision.

Following the completion, the owner shows the completed look of this sedan. He highlights that, from the outside, it will be very difficult for anyone to notice if this sedan has been converted into a Maybach. Also, he adds that the owner had already added the Maybach-style monoblock alloy wheels, which add to the look. They have also added a new Maybach-style steering wheel and new leather upholstery to refresh the interior.

The simple answer is that it makes a lot of sense to convert old luxury cars. This is because these luxury cars depreciate a lot and lose almost 70–80 percent of their value. Buying high-quality aftermarket body kits and converting them refreshes their appearance and feel without the need to spend crores on upgrading to a new model. So yes, if you have an old luxury car, you can convert it using a high-quality kit and a shop that knows how to do it.
