Many parts of India still struggle with their waste management systems and have poor hygiene levels. It looks like the cleanliness levels here interest people from other countries as well. 4cleanindia, an Instagram page that posts content showing Lazar Jankovic, a Serbian visitor (and vlogger), cleaning various places in India, has over 74.4K followers at the time of writing. Many of his ‘cleaning videos’ have had tens of thousands, if not millions, of views. One of his recent videos is now going viral on various social media platforms for a very unusual reason. It shows him finding a BMW 5 series at a garbage dumping site, somewhere in the country!
The clip opens by showing him walking on a street, towards a garbage dumping site. Two cars can be seen carelessly parked nearby- a White Tata Indigo CS and a BMW 5 Series (F10 ) finished in Black. Back in its day, this car used to have its ex-showroom prices in the range of Rs 50-58 lakh! Soon, we realise that both vehicles have been standing there for a long time, likely abandoned by the respective owners. Both of them are covered in dust, and garbage can be seen all around.

Describing the ‘unusual’ sighting, the foreign vlogger said, “To be very honest, I thought I had seen everything in life, but a BMW in a pile of garbage- I’ve never seen in my life”. The description reads ‘I’ve seen plastics, leftover food, and diapers while cleaning the trash, but never a BMW’. Watch carefully and you’ll realise that the 5 series here even has a premium number plate as well!
Yes, there’s a conscious effort from the vlogger to ‘sensationalise’ the ‘unusual’ spotting. The clip doesn’t mention the exact city or location (some comments suggest it is somewhere in Amritsar), nor does it talk about how the car ended up there. The vlogger is, however, stunned at finding a luxury car in a garbage site!

The real question is, are we able to relate to his shock? Is it that bizarre to find a luxury car lying abandoned on the streets? Well, not really! We have come across multiple instances of various luxury and high-end luxury vehicles rotting to death on the streets, in yards, garages, and other places. These even include the likes of Bentleys and Rolls-Royces! Vehicles that somehow ran into legal battles or seized for proven involvement in crimes or frauds often face this fate.
The actual story of this 5-Series remains unknown. However, here’s a possible case. The owner of this car may have abandoned it for some reason, parking it in the area of the city shown in this video. Back then , this corner may have just been another less-used area near a compound wall, and not really an urban landfill.

As days and months passed, the residents of the place may have started dumping garbage at the place, eventually turning it into a public dumping site. If you think about it, this is how such sites are formed in many cities.
Many big cities have well-designed waste management systems to ensure hygiene. It is, however, not the case with smaller towns, municipalities, and cities. In many places, people just dump waste in a vacant site or an empty corner of the street. Called ‘open dumps’, they are indeed illegal and are not built around proper waste treatment systems.
These are most seen in low-income neighbourhoods. The biggest risk of open landfills is that they cause pollution of various sorts. Possible fires and accidents are other major concerns.
