Vijay Mallya was one of the popular and richest businessmen in India. He used to own Kingfisher Airlines and many other businesses. He is currently absconding from India and is living in the UK. He was often called the “King of Good Times”. Like most millionaire businessmen, Vijay Mallya also used to lead a lavish lifestyle, hence the name. We recently came across a video on the internet where a young Vijay Mallya is seen talking about the cars that he owned at that point in time.
The video has been circulating on various social media platforms. The one seen here is from Instagram. In this video, we see popular novelist and columnist Shobha De speaking to the BBC team on camera. The exact location where this video was recorded is not known. It looks like footage from one of the parties that the industrialist had organised back in the day.
Shobha De moves through the people attending the party with the camera crew and walks up to Vijay Mallya. We see Mr. Mallya speaking to a couple of guests and he is almost unrecognisable because of how young he looks. In this video, Shobha De starts talking to Vijay Mallya and explains that she has been told that he is one of the richest men in the country and is also one of those people who is known to lead a glamorous lifestyle.

The camera crew asks whether these claims are correct and to this, Vijay Mallya responds by saying that it is not true. Shobha De interrupts and asks, what about your cars? To this question, Vijay Mallya pauses for a second and responds that he is a person who has always had a passion for cars.
He says that he owns several vintage cars and apart from those vintage cars in his collection, he also owns a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and he also owns a Maserati and a Porsche. Although he didn’t mention it in the video clip here, he also owned a Rolls-Royce during the same time.
He ends the response by saying that unlike other countries, people in India have limitations to the cars that they can get. He tries to make the answer as humble as possible by saying that one has to make use of what is available in the market.

It should be noted that when Vijay Mallya was living in India, he had a massive car collection. After he went absconding, several government agencies seized the assets, including these cars. He had classic Ferraris and even rare cars like the Plymouth Prowler in his collection.
He even owned a Maybach when it was not even a common thing in India. Because of ongoing issues, the agencies and banks that seized these vehicles put them up for auction and they were later bought by other people. Even today, these cars are rolling on the streets of Mumbai and other parts of the country.
