People driving recklessly and causing accidents on our roads is a common sight. We have also seen many videos from Goa, where tourists have gotten into trouble for driving carelessly or even for drunk driving. Here we have a video from Goa, where tourists from Chandigarh, allegedly following Google Maps, drove a Maruti Gypsy into a river. Locals allege that the occupants in the car were actually drunk.
The video has been shared by In Goa 24x7 on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see a Maruti Gypsy, probably rented by the tourists, inside a river in Goa. The driver of the car claims that he was following Google Maps while driving with his friends. The tourists were from Chandigarh, and they were not familiar with the roads.
He claimed to have been following the maps blindly when he came across an abandoned ferry ramp. The SUV driver thought it was a road, and he claims that even Google Maps was asking him to drive straight.
He followed the instructions without realizing that he had directly driven into the river. This happened at around 2–2:30 AM. The locals heard the splash and called the fire brigade. The occupants managed to escape from the vehicle and get to safety.
The fire brigade came to the spot, and by morning, they started pulling the car out of the river. Once the car was out, the locals started checking the vehicle and found liquor bottles and loose tobacco bags.

The locals are now alleging that the tourists were driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and that is why this accident happened. The tourists are sticking to their part of the story and claiming that they are telling the truth.
After the accident, the tourists can be heard saying that there were no speed breakers or barricades indicating that this was an abandoned ramp for the ferry. They were not familiar with the road, and that caused the accident. The locals and the fire brigade personnel have now asked the concerned authorities to install a speed breaker or a barricade at this place to alert people about the danger ahead.
There were empty beer bottles in the car, which indicate that they might have been drinking. While there are allegations, there is no clarity on whether the person driving the Gypsy was under the influence of alcohol or not. Many tourists who visit Goa follow this trend of drinking inside a car. This is actually a dangerous habit as it can easily lead to accidents, and we have several examples from the past that prove the same.
If you are planning to drink while in Goa, there are other ways you can enjoy your drink. You can camp at a place with your friends and enjoy responsibly. If you want to travel after drinking, it is always a good idea to look for options like a driver-on-call service or a local taxi, as it is much safer than risking your own life along with the lives of other innocent road users.
