The Tata Harrier and Safari are those two siblings which confuse buyers a lot. This is because they look the same, have almost the same features and powertrains, and are priced very closely. As a result, many people cannot decide which one they should buy and, recently, explaining how he bought a Tata Safari instead of a Harrier, a man has shared a video online. He explains all the reasons for him choosing the Safari over the Harrier.
This video explaining the choice between the Tata Harrier and Safari has been shared on YouTube by Middle Class Motorhead on their channel. It starts off with the owner mentioning that next to him is his Tata Safari Pure Plus S variant and his friend's Harrier Pure (O) variant. Soon after which, the vlogger highlights that he actually went to the Tata dealership to buy the Harrier. However, he bought the Safari instead.

Following which, he starts explaining the reasons behind this switch. For this, the first thing he highlights is the pricing of the two vehicles. As per the owner, the difference between the mid-spec variants of the Harrier and Safari was Rs 50,000. However, when the discounts were involved, the difference came down to Rs 14,000. And as a result, he opted for the Safari due to the added practicality offered by this SUV.
He highlights that for just an additional Rs 14,000, when he looked at the offerings from the Safari, it made more sense for him to buy it over the Harrier. Of these, the first is the addition of two rear disc brakes. The Safari owner mentions that his SUV comes equipped with all four disc brakes, which the Harrier does not get. The Harrier is only offered with disc brakes in the front two wheels.
Moving ahead in the video, the second difference is the rear seat availability. He added that for the small bump in price, the Safari offers an additional row of seats. This seat can be used when there are extra passengers. Meanwhile, when they are not in use, they can be folded down and the boot space becomes very large and increases the practicality. As for the Harrier, there is no such option.

The last difference he highlighted is the middle row comfort. He shows that the rear seat of the Harrier does not offer any recline or adjustability by sliding. However, the Safari offers “Boss mode,” with which the front passenger seat can be adjusted from the rear to make more space. Also, the second-row seats offer recline and sliding, which adds to the overall comfort.
Earlier in the video, the vlogger explains who should actually buy which Tata SUV. He starts by highlighting that the main confusion between the two SUVs arises when people start comparing the middle-spec variants. The buyers who want the top-of-the-line variants mostly know which exact vehicle they want, which makes their decision simpler.

However, if someone is confused between the two, they have to be clear on a few things. He then explains that if someone knows that they will not be using the third row in any case and wants a better and more sporty riding feel with better handling, then such buyers should opt for the Tata Harrier. But if having a 7-seater SUV is the most important requirement and middle-row comfort is a priority, then the buyer should opt for the Safari.
Lastly, if there is someone who does not necessarily want a 7-seater vehicle but wants the additional row of seats for occasional long drives with family, they can opt for the Safari as the difference in final pricing in the middle variants is not a lot.
