Tata Motors has recently launched the newly facelifted Punch micro-SUV in India. This particular vehicle is very popular amongst buyers who want a small SUV that can be easily driven inside the city without any hassle. Now, recently demonstrating how this vehicle will be excellent for city driving, a video has gone viral online in which an influencer drives a Tata Punch facelift from 9 kmph all the way up to 103 kmph in just the third gear alone.
The video showing this demonstration of the new Tata Punch facelift going from 9–103 kmph in third gear has been shared on Instagram by B.Choww on their page. In this short clip, the vlogger mentions that he has driven a lot of manual cars. However, he has never driven a car which has such a long and tall third gear. Soon after, to demonstrate what he means, he starts driving the Punch.
He can be seen engaging the first gear, then second, and then the third gear, after which he reduces his speed to 9 kmph in the third gear and continues driving. The vlogger mentions that he has not pressed the clutch halfway or double-pressed it, and the vehicle is still going. He shows that it goes from 17–20 kmph to 47–50 kmph and then reaches all the way up to 103 kmph before he changes the gear to fourth.

There might be a number of people who may be wondering what is so special about a vehicle going from 9 kmph to 103 kmph, right? Well, this feat is impressive because the new-generation Tata Punch facelift, like the previous model, has been designed as a city-oriented vehicle. So, having a very long and tall third gear helps the car in achieving smooth city drivability, higher fuel efficiency, and fewer gear changes.
The biggest advantage of having a tall third gear is that it offers excellent city flexibility. With this, the driver can stay in third gear for most city speeds. Less clutch work in city rides means less fatigue. Also, driving at lower RPM at common speeds helps in using less fuel, which increases efficiency. With this, the engine also feels very relaxed, and it is ideal for calm and family-oriented driving.

A lot of people in the comments section of this video have mentioned that many other vehicles can reach a much higher speed in the third gear. However, people have overlooked the fact that the Punch facelift is impressive because it can go all the way from just 9 kmph to 103 kmph. This is a very long range for a single gear and will help a lot during cumbersome city drives.

This time around, with the newly facelifted iteration, Tata Motors is offering the Punch with a new engine. It is the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine which is offered on the Nexon. This motor is capable of making 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. As for the standard engine, it is the Punch 1.2-litre NA motor making 88 PS and 115 Nm.
Lastly, it also gets the iCNG variant, which makes 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed manual (turbo petrol).
