Tata Motors is known for its sturdy build quality and that is one of the major reasons why we have seen a rise in the number of Tata car sales in the last 5 years. Tata recently showcased the build quality of their Tata Punch micro SUV by conducting an in-house crash test where they crashed the Punch into a stationary truck at 50 kmph. Tata has now taken things to the next level and decided to do a truck-to-truck test to show off its build quality.
The video has been circulating on various social media platforms. Tata is yet to release an official video of the same crash test. The videos were showcased during a recent Tata Motors commercial vehicle event where they showcased 17 new trucks including the new Azura series.
In the video we see Tata testing the build quality of their trucks by crashing one into another. We saw this kind of industry-first crash test when Sierra was launched. After Sierra we saw Punch where they crashed the micro SUV into a truck. In this third attempt they have crashed one truck into another.
In this video, we see Tata Signa and Tata Azura series trucks crashing into each other. Signa is a semi and the Azura series truck seen here doesn’t have a bed at the rear and is just the chassis with cabin.

The video doesn’t mention the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash but, in both the cases we see that the cabin has absorbed the impact pretty well. There is definitely damage to the pillars and the metal parts but, it is nothing severe that would affect the driver’s life.
It should also be noted that the dummies kept inside the truck were wearing seat belts. In India most truck drivers try to avoid this and that is a serious issue as it throws them away from the seat in case of an accident and leads to serious injuries.
In this video, Tata is showing that they are not just focusing on car owners but are equally concerned about the lives of truck drivers or commercial vehicle owners. Coming to the comment section of the video, we see a mixed reaction from the viewers. While most of them were happy about the way the trucks performed in the crash test, some of them were not satisfied and were asking Tata to do the same test with load.
What people often miss in such crash test videos is the fact that such crash tests have nothing to do with real-world driving conditions. They simply show that the vehicle is sturdy and can save you in case of a minor accident. However, it doesn’t make the vehicle invincible, you can still injure yourself seriously if not careful.
People often driving heavy vehicles are tired and because of the same reason they often get involved in accidents. Many modern trucks including the ones that are sold by Tata are now coming with driver monitoring systems and ADAS as an additional safety net.
