Tata Motors launched the Harrier.EV in June last year. Deliveries started commencing in July. In the months that followed, we saw rapid adoption. Despite being the carmaker’s EV flagship, the electric Harrier started selling like hot cakes. Many ownership reviews have also surfaced in the recent past. Now, a YouTuber who has been using the Harrier.EV for more than three months has shared a video stating three positives and three negatives that he has felt in the electric SUV so far.
This video was shared on the channel ‘Gopikrishna Techy’. He bought the EV in September and has been using it extensively ever since. The vehicle now has around 12,000 km on its odometer. Two services have already been completed. This owner seems to be happy with his experience so far. He describes his ownership experience in detail, on video.
He starts by talking about an unpleasant experience he has had with the EV. He had to replace one of the rear tyres at 9000 km. It had become bald by then. The Harrier.EV is available in both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) versions. The vehicle in this case has RWD. So why did he have to replace the tyre so quickly?

Gopikrishna, the YouTuber, cites two reasons for this: one, an issue in wheel alignment, and secondly, his own spirited driving style. Combined, these destroyed the tyre in not time. Remember, the Harrier EV RWD has 315 Nm torque. He further says that the car had an alignment issue right from the time of purchase. He also talks about how low-resistance, soft compound tyres of sporty EVs deplete fast under spirited driving.
You might know it by now. Tyre replacements for sporty/ performance-centric EVs can be expensive. A single tyre can cost around Rs 20,000-23,000. Replacing all four can cost around a lakh! This can eat into the ‘operating cost savings’ that they are projected to bring in.
Another problem he has been facing with the vehicle is bugs and glitches. He has had bugs and errors pop up in the car’s infotainment system, camera and several other places. The e-SUV, he says, has also had issues detecting the key fob.

Gopi also adds that none of these glitches were big enough to get him stranded. Most of them would go away when the vehicle is restarted and the system is reset. One of these glitches even did a factory reset to the vehicle, erasing information like the seat’s memory settings.
The third problem is with the wireless charger. He says that the unit in his Harrier.EV is very slow and takes too much time to recharge smartphones. He even claims that he has tried charging different phones and that the result was comparable in all cases.

The biggest strength of the Harrier.EV, he says, is the ride quality. The electric SUV offers a plush ride without compromising on dynamics or handling. Its suspension uses Frequency Dependent Damping and has a multi-link setup at the rear. This owner says that he is very satisfied with the ride quality and how the car keeps its occupants comfortable even on long drives.
Secondly, Gopi loves the Harrier.EV’s braking performance. The vehicle comes with four disc brakes, which he says, perform exceptionally well.
Finally, this owner loves spirited driving and how the Harrier.EV RWD performs under hard acceleration. The AWD-equipped Harrier.EV accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 6.3 seconds. Though not that fast, the RWD’s acceleration is still brisk. This owner seems to enjoy it a lot.
