Indian roads are full of surprises. We often see people blaming each other and getting involved in road rage incidents over the silliest reasons. Along with reckless driving, jaywalking, and wrong-side riding, we also come across videos where people are seen helping one another. Here we have one such video where cops are seen helping a man who suffered a seizure while trying to cross the road.
The video has been shared by Bad Drivers of India on their YouTube channel. The entire incident was recorded on the dashcam of a car, and the footage was likely uploaded online by the car owner. In the video, we see the dashcam car approaching an intersection.
There are police officers on duty on the other side of the road. As the dashcam car moves forward, it slows down just before joining the main road, as the driver checks whether the traffic is clear.
At this moment, a pedestrian is seen walking from the right side of the vehicle, attempting to cross the road. The man pauses briefly, and just as the dashcam car is about to move ahead, the pedestrian suddenly turns around.
Initially, it looks like he is confused, but that is not the case. He runs forward and then back, clearly losing control. He was actually experiencing a seizure, and before anyone could react, he collapsed on the road.
The cops standing on the opposite side of the road immediately noticed the man falling and rushed to the spot. The first thing they checked was whether the pedestrian had been hit by the dashcam car. After examining the situation, they quickly realised that it was not the driver’s fault.
Soon, more officers who were present at the location gathered around the man to help him. Thankfully, a Mahindra Scorpio belonging to the police department was also passing in the opposite direction. The officers in the vehicle noticed the crowd, stopped immediately, and joined the rescue effort.
The police officers tried their best to help the man. Some of them were seen running to get water bottles, while others removed the man’s shoes. However, it appeared that they were unsure about how to properly handle such a medical emergency. The officers seemed confused and not fully prepared to deal with a seizure-related situation.
Once they realised that the man had suffered a seizure, the officers began clearing the road and instructed the dashcam car and other vehicles to move on, ensuring that traffic congestion did not build up.
If you ever come across someone having a seizure, there are a few important things you should do to help. Stay calm and ensure the person’s safety by clearing the surrounding area and cushioning their head.
Time the seizure and gently roll the person onto their side once it stops. Loosen any tight clothing, but never put anything in their mouth, as this could cause choking. Do not restrain them, and always call emergency services if the seizure lasts more than five minutes.
