In the recent past, we have seen many high-ranking government officials inducting electric vehicles into their office fleets. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the Governor of Odisha, is a good example. He had previously added three brand-new Mahindra XEV 9e electric SUVs to his fleet. The Governor has now inducted a brand-new Tata Harrier EV into the Raj Bhavan’s fleet. A photo of this has now surfaced online.

The Governor's new Harrier.EV is finished in White. Tata Motors offers the electric SUV in five colours- Pure Grey, Prestine White, Nainital Nocturne, Empowered Oxide, Matte Stealth Black (sold as the ‘Stealth Edition). The Raj Bhavan’s vehicle also has the official ‘Ashoka’ mascot on its front bumper. It also has ‘Raj Bhavan Odisha’ written on its bonnet.

Tata launched the Harrier EV in the Indian market in June this year. It has become the most expensive offering in Tata’s EV lineup. On the design front, the EV stands close to the diesel Harrier. It, however, does come with unique bits like aero-efficient alloy wheels, blanked-out grille, and new bumpers. The cabin has a Grey-White dual-tone colour scheme. The layout and overall design inside stand close to those of the diesel SUV.
The Harrier.EV comes with features like a 14.5-inch central touchscreen powered by Samsung Neo QLED, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, Premium JBL Audio with Dolby Atmos , dual-zone climate control, a 540-degree surround view, ventilated seats, a powered tailgate, level 2 ADAS, digital rearview mirror, remote parking, connected car tech, and more. This electric SUV had, in fact, created a lot of buzz online with its long list of fancy features.

Underpinning the Harrier.EV is Tata’s second-generation Acti.EV+ platform, which features a multi-link rear suspension. Tata calls this the ‘Ultra Glide’. The diesel SUV has a torsion beam setup at the rear.
Two battery packs are offered on the all-electric Harrier-65 kWh and 75 kWh, the larger of which has a claimed range of over 500 km per charge. The vehicle also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging.
Tata sells both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All Wheel Drive (dual motor version) versions of the Harrier.EV in India. It was the first product in its segment to offer AWD. It remains unclear if the Odisha governor has opted for the AWD version, which has 369 bhp and 500 Nm on offer.
Unlike some of its rivals, the Harrier.EV can do a fair bit of off-roading as well. At the time of writing, the Harrier.EV starts at Rs 21.49 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 29.48 lakh, ex-showroom, for the top-spec variant.
It was in May this year that Kambhampati added the Mahindra XEV 9es to his fleet. All three EVs are finished in Stealth Black. The XEV 9e’s colour palette consists of seven shades. Like the newly inducted Harrier.EV, these vehicles too have ‘Ashoka’ mascots on their front and rear bumpers.

The XEV 9e is now Mahindra’s flagship electric vehicle and comes in three broad trims- Pack ONE, Pack TWO, and Pack THREE. The governor likely chose the range-topping variant. Two battery pack choices are on offer- 59 kWh and 79 kWh, both sourced from BYD, and the larger of which has a claimed range of 656km per charge. The XEV 9e comes with a single motor setup (no AWD!) that produces 282 bhp and 380 Nm on the 79 kWh version. The electric SUV is currently has its ex-showroom prices in the range of Rs 21.90 to 31.25 lakh.
