Most Mahindra Thar owners focus on aesthetic modifications in India. However, there are a few off-road enthusiasts who care more about the performance of their vehicles than mere looks. Recently, a video of one such owner of a Stage 2 Mahindra Thar has been shared online. As per the owner, this particular Thar has received a ton of performance upgrades and makes around 206 bhp and 465 Nm of torque.
The detailed video review of the Mahindra Thar three-door with the Stage 2 setup has been shared on YouTube by 4X4 Basics on their page. It starts off with the owner of this Thar mentioning that he bought his SUV three years ago. He adds that it is the three-door diesel manual 4X4 variant, after which he highlights the main reason why he gave his vehicle a Stage 2 upgrade.
In the video, the owner mentions that the stock Thar was fun. However, he performs some serious off-roading and also participates in multiple off-roading events and competitions. He thought that bumping up the power would help him. As a result, he then started searching and eventually pulled the trigger on the modifications required for the Stage 2 upgrade.

Following the introduction, the vlogger then opens the bonnet of this SUV and highlights the list of modifications on his Thar. He states that one of the main highlights of this package is the remapped ECM (Engine Control Module). As per the owner, he had to buy a new ECM to get it flashed with the Stage 2 tune. He added that a lot of vehicles come with unlocked ECMs.
However, there are a few ECMs that are locked, and in the case of the Thar, he had to remap it through the replacement ECM route. Next up, he cleverly added that during an off-road adventure, his EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), catalytic converter, and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) all got damaged due to rocks after he pushed the vehicle a little too hard.
The owner then added that as these parts are extremely expensive to replace, he found a makeshift solution. For this, he got a custom straight-pipe exhaust and added a resonator at the end to keep the volume of the vehicle low. (For those who may not have caught on, this is purely sarcasm.) Next up, the owner adds that his vehicle also gets bigger 17-inch aftermarket alloy wheels with larger MT tyres.

The owner/vlogger then starts driving his Thar and mentions that the stock SUV makes 130 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. However, as per the tuner, it now makes 206 bhp and 465 Nm of torque. He added that he has not verified it on the dyno at the moment; however, while driving it, he can feel the difference in power.

Moving on, the owner concludes the video by mentioning the cost of all the modifications. He starts by stating that the new ECM cost Rs 84,000. Meanwhile, the Stage 2 tune was Rs 36,000. As for the downpipe, its cost is Rs 48,000, and lastly, the resonator costs Rs 32,000.
In total, he has spent Rs 2 lakh on the modifications. He added that he also has to add an oil catch tank, an upgraded intercooler, and a sturdier aftermarket clutch to handle the extra torque.
