JSW is preparing to set up its own independent automotive vertical in India, called JSW Motors. One of its first products will be the Jetour T2 SUV plug-in hybrid SUV. Expected to launch around Diwali this year, it will reportedly be assembled at the company’s upcoming plant in Maharashtra. With time still left for its market debut, a YouTube video shows how a T2 was pushed down a hill, and how its cabin remained intact and engine could start after the fall. This clip shows just how tough this SUV is.
Shared on the channel Cars.co.za, this 11-minute video puts the T2 through some serious durability tests. Towards the end of it (10:08 onwards), we see the team pushing one of the T2s that they have, down a hill. The car rolls down the embankment, for tens of metres. Thankfully, it did not end up in the river.
One of the hosts then examines the car to see how bad the damage is. To his surprise, the Android Auto was still running. All airbags had deployed during the fall, and the bodywork had taken some damage. However, the cabin remained very much intact. Even the sunroof appears to be in good shape, thanks to the functional roof rails.
The team then pulled the car up using tow cables and a winch. Later we see one of the hosts ‘charging his phone’ from the T2 that was pushed down the hill! He then cranks it and the engine fires up without hesitation! He is then seen ‘driving the car home’. The rollover test could not break the T2. The video demonstrates its tough build quality and structural rigidity.
In this case, a stationary T2 was pushed down the embankment, and not one that was in motion and already had some kinetic energy. The impact may have been higher in that case. Even so, the T2 is indeed a tough vehicle and would keep occupants safe in most crash scenarios.

As mentioned above, JSW Motors has plans to launch the T2 here, this year. Once out, it will likely be positioned in the premium SUV segment, with possible ex-showroom prices in the range of Rs 38-40 lakh. If so, it will compete with Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, and Jeep Meridian. Like its rivals, the T2 will also have an imposing road presence.
It will have a monocoque construction. When launched in India, this SUV will likely get a different name and India-specific styling changes along with the ‘JSW badge’. Signature cues like the boxy shape, flared wheel arches, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel will be retained.
The T2 measures 4612 mm in length, 2006 mm in width, 1,870 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2800mm. It will also have a ground clearance of 220mm. Globally, three engine options are available on the T2- two turbo-petrols and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

The plugin hybrid variant, called the T2 i-DM, will be brought to India. The powertrain here mates a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with two electric motors and a 26.7 kWh LFP battery pack. This setup, mated to a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, is expected to have a combined system output of around 380 PS and 610 Nm. The T2 will also excel with its off-roading abilities.
The T2 will have a modern, tech-packed cabin. It will come with features like ventilated seats, 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS and more.
