In India, car culture is changing, and in the last couple of decades, we have seen a rise in the number of people who are interested in luxury and exotic cars from foreign brands. In most cases, these cars are bought by young and wealthy businessmen and entrepreneurs. However, here we have a video where a self-styled godman, Jagatguru Mahamandaleshwar Santosh Das, or Baba Satua as his followers like to call him, bought a brand-new car. He didn’t buy a hatchback or an SUV. He bought a Porsche Taycan electric sports car worth Rs 3 crore.
The video has been shared by Arun Paswan on his Twitter/X page. In this video, we see a bunch of sadhus gathered around a blue-coloured Porsche Taycan. It was later revealed that the car belongs to one of the godmen, Satua Baba. He was visiting the ongoing Magh Mela in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. Satua Baba became the centre of attraction, and the video of him with the car has been circulating online for quite some time now.
Satua Baba is the head of Varanasi’s Satua Baba Peeth, and he has been spotted driving the same car too. We see the godman standing along with his followers next to the car and posing for videos and pictures.
Usually, we have learned that people who take the spiritual path often leave a luxurious lifestyle and try to lead a very simple and humble life. However, the Satua Baba seen here in the video is leading a life that is anything but simple.
The comment section under this video is filled with reactions that are both supportive and critical of the godman. Some of the comments are, “This is business!!! ?”, “Ye sanyaasi kaise ho sakte hain jab inse moh hi nahi chhoot raha hai. Ye sant nahi, businessman hain, dharm ke vyapari hain ye”, “This is a major reason why the Lotus party is securing a majority of seats,” and so on.
The car seen here in the video is a Porsche Taycan. It is Porsche’s first fully electric sports car. The Taycan’s price starts at Rs 1.70 crore, ex-showroom, and goes all the way up to Rs 2.69 crore, ex-showroom. It is available in multiple variants, and we are not sure which one the Baba seen in the video bought.
We will assume that he bought the top-end Turbo variant, which costs Rs 2.69 crore. The Taycan Turbo is powered by a 93.4 kWh battery pack, which generates 872 bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque. It gets a dual-motor setup that sends power to all four wheels.
It is mated to an automatic transmission and can do 0–100 kmph in just 2.7 seconds. The top speed of the Taycan Turbo is 260 kmph, and it has a claimed driving range of 683 km on a full charge. It looks like this is not the first time Satua Baba is getting criticised for his car. Apart from the Porsche, he also owns a Land Rover Defender luxury SUV worth crores.
