India continues to report an alarming number of road accidents every year. Human error is often the biggest culprit in such cases. In recent years, CCTV and surveillance cameras have been installed in most places. The footage from these often exposes the real culprits or reasons behind crashes. One such case has now surfaced from Enathu in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district. A Hyundai Creta Knight Edition crashed into a Maruti Dzire that was being driven carelessly, after the latter tried to make a sudden and poorly judged turn, without even using the indicators. The impact made the SUV overturn. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the incident.
This crash happened near Maharshikavu, in Enathu. Two separate videos of it have been shared online- one showing the accident itself and the other its aftermath. In the first clip, we see the single-lane highway. It isn’t too busy. Several vehicles can, however, be seen on the road. The Dzire is seen parked by the side. It is likely waiting to enter the highway or to make a turn. Since the indicators aren’t turned on, the driver’s actual intention remains unclear even to the onlookers.

Soon, the unexpected happens. The Dzire attempts a U-turn. It needs almost the entire width of the road to do this. Just as it reaches the middle of the road, a Creta appears on the screen. The Dzire’s U-turn indeed came as a surprise for the Creta’s driver. Since the sedan was standing in the middle of the road, there was little that the Creta driver could do.
The SUV swerves to the right. However, it could not avoid making contact. The Creta’s left side hits the Dzire’s right front bumper. The impact, together with its sharp steering input, unsettled the Creta, causing it to overturn. Even the Maruti took significant damage in the event.
The second video shows the aftermath of this incident. In it, we can see the conditions of both vehicles after the crash in detail. It is from this video that we get to understand that the Creta involved is a Knight edition model- the ‘Knight’ badge can be seen in it. The Creta is seen lying upside down.
The airbags seem to have deployed on time, and the pillars are in decent shape as well. The doors were likely not stuck. Severe scratches and dents can be seen on the bodywork. The occupants survived without major injuries.

The clip then shows the Dzire’s shape. The timely reaction of the Creta driver saved the SUV from colliding with the Dzire’s cabin. This seems to have saved its occupants. If the Creta had hit its cabin, the gravity of this crash would have escalated manifold. The contact damaged the sedan’s front end almost completely. The bonnet, bumpers, fenders, lamps, etc, have been badly damaged.

Going by the above videos, the Dzire driver seems to be at fault here. He tried to make the turn without turning the indicators on or warning the vehicles around about his intentions. The driver’s poor judgment of the oncoming Creta’s speed can be cited as another big reason for the incident.
As the videos racked up views online, netizens spotted an interesting detail- the Dzire, in this case, has different paints on the B-pillars on either side. On the right, it is painted Black while the one of the left has body colour. The reason for this could be a replacement in the past, possibly following another crash.
The videos have set netizens talking about how careless driver behaviours cause serious crashes and can even lead to loss of lives. Netizens criticised the Dzire driver severely for his act.
