Government has been working on several projects and initiatives to promote electric vehicles. In the past, many government departments have switched to EVs and have been using them as their official vehicles. Even many celebrities have switched to EVs, and we have featured them on our website in the past. This time around, it is Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog, who has bought a brand new XEV 9E. He has not only bought an XEV 9E but is also urging others to switch to EVs too.
Amitabh Kant recently posted images of himself with his brand new XEV 9E on his X profile. He posted the images of the car with a caption:“I have just switched to the Mahindra XEV9, embracing born electric mobility. It has a highly innovative design, advanced EV technology & superb driving performance.
Delighted to contribute to India’s journey towards a greener future while supporting #MakeInIndia innovation and manufacturing. The shift to EVs is not just about vehicles - it is about powering India’s progress with cleaner air, advanced technology, and a robust domestic industry.
Those wanting to buy BMWs should switch over to the @makeinIndia EV experience. It will elevate you to another level.”
We see him standing next to his XEV 9E, and there is also an image of him in the driver’s seat. He bought the eSUV in a Nebula Blue shade, which looks extremely elegant. It is, without any doubt, an exceptionally elegant and futuristic-looking EV. We are assuming that he bought the top-end variant.

It is also loaded to the brim with features. Amitabh Kant is actually urging people to look for Made-in-India cars, especially EVs like the XEV 9E, BE6, and Tata Harrier.ev, instead of going for BMWs and other foreign brands. This would actually motivate Indian brands to do better and offer improved products and experiences to customers.
He specifically mentioned BMW brand amid the row over the public tender by Lokapal of India to buy seven BMW 330 Li vehicles. He had asked authorities to cancel the tender and go for make in India EVs as they are also world class products.
The XEV 9E is preferred by many family car buyers because it offers the feel and experience of a larger car. The design of the XEV 9E also looks a lot more subtle when compared to the BE6. The XEV 9E is one of the most feature-loaded SUVs from Mahindra. It is based on Mahindra’s all-new INGLO platform, specifically developed for EVs.
The front fascia features drop-down LED DRLs with a connecting LED bar. The EV gets a coupe-like design with all-LED tail lamps and a connecting light bar running across the width of the vehicle.
Like most modern Mahindra vehicles, the XEV 9E is also a feature-loaded SUV. It offers premium features like three large 12.30-inch screens on the dashboard, which Mahindra calls the “Cinemascope Cockpit.” Additionally, Mahindra provides two screens for rear-seat passengers to ensure they don’t miss out on entertainment.
Other features include a VisionX Augmented Reality HUD, MAIA (Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor, 24 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage. The SUV also comes with seven airbags, Level 2+ ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and more. Other notable features include leatherette upholstery with seat ventilation, electrically adjustable seats, an infinity glass roof with dynamic lights, and multi-zone climate control.
The electric SUV is available with two battery pack options. The lower variants get a 59 kWh battery pack, while the higher versions get a 79 kWh battery.
The smaller battery version generates 228 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque, offering a claimed range of 542 km. The larger 79 kWh variant generates 282 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque, with a claimed range of 656 km. Prices for the Mahindra XEV 9E start at Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 31.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
