Carelessness is one of the major causes of accidents anywhere in the world. In India, things are no different, and we have several examples that prove the same. Hundreds of accidents happen every day. In some cases, people lose their lives, whereas in others, people escape death or serious injuries by a very narrow margin. Here we have one such video from Kerala where a kid, carelessly running across the road, narrowly escaped getting hit by a bus.
The video has been shared by Media One TV on their YouTube channel. The incident happened in the Kodiyathur region of Kozhikode, Kerala. The entire incident was recorded by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop.
In the video, we see an autorickshaw stopped on the side of the road. It is a narrow, undivided two-lane road that passes through a village or town in Kerala. It looks like the auto driver had stopped to drop off the occupants. Among them was a young kid. As soon as the kid got out of the auto, she noticed one of her relatives standing on the other side of the road.
Out of excitement, the kid forgot about her surroundings and decided to run towards the relative to greet her. She ran onto the road without checking for oncoming traffic. There were not many vehicles on the road when the auto had stopped, and she probably assumed that the road would remain clear.
However, at that moment, a private bus that regularly operates on that route was approaching from the same direction in which the auto had arrived. The kid completely ignored the traffic and started running across the road.
The bus driver overtook the autorickshaw from the right side, and almost immediately after overtaking it, he spotted the kid. The driver reacted quickly and tried his best to avoid an accident. He swerved the bus into the opposite lane, and the kid missed the front-left bumper of the bus by a very small margin.

She was still not completely out of danger, as the bus was still moving. By then, the driver had applied the brakes to ensure that the kid did not come under the tyres or hit the metal body panels of the bus. The bus driver managed to stop the vehicle within a very short distance.
The kid, who narrowly escaped the accident, was clearly scared and ran back towards the autorickshaw where her parents or other adults were sitting. The bus driver mentioned that he didn't have much time to react as the autorickshaw was blocking his vision.
He somehow managed to swerve the bus away from the kid. They bus driver was in shock and he actually took two days off to get out of the shock. He did stop and try to talk to the parents but, they told bus driver that the kid was unhurt and they don't have to stop.
This kid was extremely lucky to escape such a serious accident. The alertness and quick reaction of the bus driver deserve appreciation. If there had been another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, the bus could have crashed into it, potentially injuring passengers inside.
In this case, the fault clearly lies with the parents or guardians. The kid should not have been left unsupervised. Ideally, the child should have exited the autorickshaw last to avoid such a dangerous situation.
