Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. In fact, it is one of those SUVs that has ruled both the rural and urban markets of India for quite some time. It has also been a favorite in the modification scene. Over the last couple of decades, we have come across several tastefully modified Scorpio SUVs from different parts of the country.
Lately, oversized wheels have become a trend in many regions, and here we have a video featuring a Mahindra Scorpio fitted with massive 26-inch alloy wheels. While this may look appealing to some, it is actually a very bad idea.
The video has been shared by Mihir Galat on his YouTube channel. In the video, the vlogger interacts with a young Mahindra Scorpio owner, who is just 22 years old. He bought his Scorpio a couple of years ago. The owner mentions that he comes from a family-run construction business, which is how he managed to purchase the vehicle.
The main highlight of this Scorpio is, of course, the wheels. The owner explains that he always wanted to do something unique with his car. He wasn’t trying to challenge anyone but simply wanted to satisfy his personal interest.
When he first thought about installing oversized wheels on the SUV, not many people had attempted something like this. He had the option of 28-inch and 26-inch alloy wheels but eventually chose the 26-inch units, which he has been using since.
To accommodate the massive wheels, the owner had to make several modifications. He chopped the bumpers and installed spacers to ensure the wheels wouldn’t rub against the wheel arches.
While the owner appears to be very happy with his modification, it should be noted that this is not a practical setup. Choosing such large wheels comes with many compromises. First, they don’t fit directly on a vehicle like the Scorpio, so alterations to the body and suspension become necessary. Secondly, fitting them with low-profile tyres, like the ones seen in the video, severely affects ride quality.
It is also highly unlikely that the car can be driven fast with such wheels. The video doesn’t specify the brand of the alloys, but if they are not from a reputed manufacturer, there is a high risk of them breaking while the vehicle is in motion. Moreover, the stock mechanical components of the Scorpio are not designed to handle wheels of this size, which means accelerated wear and tear is almost certain. The handling and body roll of the vehicle would have also increased.
While such modifications may look eye-catching, they are never a good idea for a daily-use vehicle. Additionally, they attract unwanted attention not just from people but also from law enforcement.
In India, modifications of any kind are illegal, and using such oversized wheels will likely result in heavy fines. On top of that, the owner has also tinted the windshield and windows and upgraded the headlamps, which are further violations of road regulations.
In fact the car seen here has been quite popular on social media and cops have issued fine for modifications several time. Even news channels have featured this car over the modifications in the past.
